New Bushings

Post by josh »

The Delica front end started rattling and banging pretty bad, I thought it might be the shocks. But I happened to be looking under my vehicle a few days ago and noticed that the bushings on the front left side sway arm(?) had broken off. And on the right side they were pushing through. The rubber just dried out over the past 15yrs.

Anyhow, easy fix. Needs to be done on the ground to keep the pressure off of them. Here are a couple pics, 1st one is prior to the fix, the second is after.

Image

Notice how there is no bushing at the top end of the bolt (top of the sway bar) and that the bolt is loose.

Image

Notice how this snugs up the bolt, and there is a ruber bushing on both the top and bottom of the sway bar.

Anyhow, the parts number: Lordco K7404 or Napa NCP2651313 (But although Napa shows the part on thier computer, they dont actually have them available!) The parts are for a Montero, and although they are not the exact piece they work beautifully. To order the piece in from Japan would be about 100+, but to get the Montero ones it cost about $11/per side.

Now my front end doesn't slam occasionally.

Energy Suspension make all kind of bushings out of polyeurethane.

There a tight fit and more work to install than rubber ones but they are far superior in terms of perfomance and service life. Maybe worth checking out if your doing a refit.

Thanks argo,

I was just talking to Bruce about the polyeurethane bushings... he says the ones he has been using wear out constantly and is switching to polyeurethane. Anyhow, he is doing it in the next few weeks and was going to give me a price... have you got any idea of how much they are out here?

good question,

Havn't a clue,to be honest. But like anything else certainly worth shopping around.

Glenn at ccautos seems to have a good parts guy at the Parksville Lordco. I'm getting excellent service from Luigi and Troy at Beacon auto [Napa] in Sidney. Sometimes you can get good deals from Spring shops too.

Nice pictures, thanks.

Part number for NAPA right off the box in front of me is 265-1299.

It was $27 and included 4 bushing sets, enough to do both our Delica's. Somebody else might need to share if they get these.

Hi, guys, dont used those bushing, its so soft easily to break. used this polyutherane rubber. it called shock tower bushing red Or black color, i always used red color you can buy this at lordco ,energy suspension parts # 98108R red color. this is the best you could used. those for montero is not good.this polyutherine is hard & thick wont break easy & when you put this bushing you will find its stiff when cornering. i used this bushing on many of my delica. it works great & you will be satisfied. try it & see. also its cheap but good list price $6.20. hope this will help to keep your delica good in cornering it works like you have a truck.
Cheers :)

MardyDelica,

ARe you sure thats the right part number? Here's the link to the energy suspension website:

http://www.energysuspension.com/pages/sk_bsp1.html

The part just looked hourglass shaped while the bushing in Josh's picture looks different. Maybe the 98101?

Anyway just compiling part #s here and don't want anyone to be mislead.

BCDelica,

Are those polyurethane bushings?

Josh
Hi Josh, the NAPA ones are plain black rubber. I know Energy Suspension products are great, the bushings I installed looked like there part # 9.8113.

I just checked and the measurements are the same for the bushings I bought and the ones they list on there website, except the NAPA ones have a 3/8" ID through out. They NAPA ones fit well and were recommended but my local shop, I can live with the fact that they'll only last a few years. With luck I'll have a lifted Delica within the time.

Cheers

Sway arm bushing bolt

Post by Leafster »

We picked up our Delica the other day and I noticed when I was working on the torsion bars that my sway bar was completely disconnected on the passenger side and missing the bolt and nut. Has anyone sourced one of these yet? I bought the Energy bushings today but haven't had any luck yet on the bolt.
