those tend to be the magic words that equate to "write off"

Generally speaking, RHD = writeoff. Way less work for them. If you do the homework for them and source the parts required to repair it and the prices of the parts etc. you might have a chance depending on how bad it really is.

sorry to say, that i think icbc will write it off, as i did deal with 2 delica already but the 2 delcia is o.k. , cause the frame was not damage. but if the frame is bent chances are they will write it off but they will pay you good.as long as you got all the paper for repair & other stup that you put in your deli. you can buy it back for parts to your new delica again, but cannot rebuild it & put in the road again.
its just there policy now.

Josh had ICBC write off his Delica but ended up buying it back for a decent price. You might want to get in touch with him to find out how his ordeal went.

I infact did have an accident, and the Delica was written off. Was the accident your fault or the other drivers? Just curious, because in our case it was 100% the other drivers fault, and ICBC was extreemly fair (I bought my delica before they were worth so much, yet ICBC gave me present market value for it) and they were great to deal with. Also the whole process was over in about a week. Of course the accident made the radio withing 30min as being a RHD involved in accident, and ICBC had to report it as such as well (all anti-RHD propeganda) but all that aside I found ICBC to be very professional and fair.

I never thought I would talk so positively of ICBC.

I heard somewhere these are a uni-body vehicle: that would mean the frame and body are synonymous. That generally means a write-off because it is difficult to 'bend' the body back to the original shape, especially if that shape is not known (ie I don't know how many Delicas have been on the machine).

Saddened to hear of your loss. Good to hear that all are safe - no serious injuries.

It's always sad when you see one of your own men (or women) down. Dealing with ICBC can be a slow frustrating process. I was hit in Jane (my Delica) downtown a month ago when a guy tried to get through a stop sign in front of me. Here's where I rave about all our van's worth! He hit me in the rear left wheel and knocked me 180 degrees! I ended up facing the oncoming traffic. No one was hurt and the ONLY damage to the van seems to be the small plastic wheel cover was smashed and the mudflap deformed by about 2 cm. The Mercedes that hit me was...uhhh... a little worse off. There was 50 square meters of Mercedes bumper covering the intersection. These van's ROCK!

Someone more knowledgeable might be able pipe in here Jeremy, but I would be concerned about your rear axle. Bearing, bushings, and differential would have taken a substantial, sudden load in a direction they're not designed handle. I would believe you should have your entire rear axle replaced. My $0.02.

Already done Kev, Butch at ATI Motors on Bridgeport road had the van on the lift a day after the accident checking axel, differential, frame, suspension and wheels. All was looking good. probably because he hit me not going super fast on a rainy street. This was also why I slid so far. Believe me, I was quite reluctant to believe that the van was more ore less unhurt after that jolt. jer
