Hey Everybody,
I have been trying to fix the heat in the Deli for a couple weeks now. So far I have had the thermostat replaced, the waterpump, all the lines for the heat flushed, all with no success. It blows a bit warmer than it did before all this work, but it's not warm enough to heat up the cabin at all. My mechanic is at his wits end, he says he's measured the temp. of all the lines with a infrared meter, and everything seems to be working as it should. For some reason it just won't blow hot air from the vents. The fan seems to be blowing the same as other Deli's. He has done thermostat replacement on other Deli's with success, and cannot figure out why mine ain't cooperating. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know, cause it's fricken freezing up here today,

I have a similar problem....it only blows warmish.i got new thermostat and waterpump... Delicat you got an idea?

my idea is that it's a diesel engine, small diesels don't generate much heat... I find it almost impossible to keep a reasonably warm temperature in the Delica, but it's miles ahead of my last diesel car!

I don't know about 'small diesels do not create much heat'!
Our VW Jettas have always provided lots of heat.

i think its just the vehicles set up, so much open space and glass the air just cools down real was too,then again my back door leaks so what do i know?!

I seem to have reduced the leakage around most of the doors (forgot to do the tailgate) and it has helped a lot, I also find that closing the sunshades and the curtains makes a difference too, but I'm still at no risk of heat-stroke in there in the winter!

I have heard that some Deli's get too hot, like you have to crack a window. It's definately not like that in mine, but that's what I'm looking for.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice - our Delica provides plenty of heat, except the rear ceiling vents no longer blow hot like the floor vents . . . kinda weird. Anyone else have this problem?

I'd be more concerned with your statement that they used to provide heat, considering that the duct work doesn't connect to the heater at all...

the rule in the back is that the top is for cold the bottom is for hot (take a look at the sliders and glue a popsicle stick between them if you want, they might as well move together)

FWIW, I haven't had a chance to replace thermostat, pump, etc., yet. But the Chamonix I just got seems to stay toasty warm even at -26.

There's a chance the circulation in your heater core is impeded. One cause in real cold climes could be inadequate coolant turning slushy and therefore not circulating. If it is plugged with detritius then even a flush may not improve circulation. Did the mechanic look at the IR signature at the outflow of the heater core and compare it to the outflow at the rad where it goes to the heater core? If a significant difference could be noted perhaps that would be a good diagnostic tool.

Good idea, if your heater core is restricted what's your radiator like? A proper caustic fluid flush is a must for all Delicas. Mine didn't blow warm at all fresh of the boat (it sat for over 8 years) and now both Delicas can get too warm.

hi dan, sounds like a circulation problem for sure, heat there but not moving enough. pop your return and supply hoses to the heater core off _ONE at a time while your engine is idling. have an assistant slowly topping up the rad with you 50/50 mix of coolant) now ya can observe return flow after figuring out which one it is. a big burp of air out then solid coolant flow, fixed same problem on a cherokee the other day. if there is no air and good return flow (hot) then you would have leaky air ducting or a stuck flap. hope that helps.
