So I just changed where I get diesel from Super Store to Shell. Van is running much better already. Starts easier, smokes less, better mileage. HOWEVER since doing this my fuel pump is leaking. not sure exactly but thinking from the two bolt on plates on the side of pump. Is there any connection to fuel change to leak???????????? Note. never leaked before running other fuel.

Most of the time they will leak from the two plates at the bottom of the pump on both sides. there is also the seal at the back of the pump kind of between all the fuel lines. The latter can be replaced without taking the pump out of its hole but not the bottom ones.

Was thinking it was leaking from those plates. Is it just a gasket on each that need to be replaced?

so with a little further investigating it appears that the pump is leaking from top gasket on engine side. Should I just have whole pump rebuilt?

If you've pulled it apart that far you might as well buy a rebuild kit (
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GASKET-KIT-REBU ... Gs&vxp=mtr) and replace the seals yourself. I'm guessing you've seen the Gnarlodious VE pump rebuild how-to?

...for certain definitions of "exciting", yes

. I would have said "intimidating" or "terrifying", but having done the rebuild it's surprisingly easy.

On this topic, I been trying to track down instructions for replacing the seals.
Anyone find anything posted or done this and willing to explain?
Cheers

Anybody have a copy of what was on the Gnarlodious link? It seems to no longer be alive...

Working on solving a leak and want to replace some O-rings without removing the whole pump. The main leak is coming from the distributor head high pressure pump (the thing in the middle of the fuel injection lines).
What kind of specialty socket can remove that? It has three flat and three round sides. About 22mm. Very bizzare...
Please help!

Just bought these. Perfect fit.
You’ll need to remove the top two injector pipes to get the socket in and it’s a very fine thread on that centre bolt so just keep unscrewing until it comes off. Easy o-ring swap. Minimal fuel spillage. Prime the injectors you disconnected (loosen the other end of the pipe at the injector a half turn, crank the starter until fuel leaks out and retighten (as per Growlerbearnz’s instructions))
