I am currently looking to purchase an imported Delica. I have found a few I am interested in but they are typically located in the Vancouver area but I am in the Kingston, ON area. What I'm looking to do is have a mechanic in the Vancouver area look over the vehicles in question. Give me an idea of what shape they are in and what should be done to it mechanically to get it into good shape. I've heard the cooling system hoses, timing belt and likely rust proofing and undercoating should be done before i fly out and drive it across the country. I have looked into having the vehocle shipped out but think that driving it back will be less expensive and more fun. I have previously owned an imported HJ60 Toyota Landcruiser but am looking to replace it with the Delica.
I had previously bought the Landcruiser from Outback imports and I know they used ATEB as a service shop and I have always heard good things about them. Just wondering if there are any other suggestions or if anyone can give suggestions on the best way to organize this deal from here>

Thanks
Jayson

Do you want to buy an L300 or l400 ?

A few Delica are for sale in Ontario and even 1 L400 in Québec  Check on Kijiji. Also a few dealers in Ontario (Bonsai Rides). It is most likely a better idea to see and touch your Van before buying it but surely cheaper to have it ship to your door from BC then spending money going there (travel, moter, fuel, meals, time, etc.). Yes, have it rustproof. Price depend on how well maintenance was done, year, rust, etc.

I bought my '93 Delica from Craig at Bonsai Rides. It's now been 4 years of fantastic driving with this van. Craig is a licensed used car dealer and knows his stuff completely when it comes to these vehicles. His website is excellent:

www.bonsairides.com

I'm from Peterborough and decided to make the 5 hour drive down to see him after seeing the van I bought on his website. Lots of great photos and a walk around video tour. Everything was just as described. I went down twice. Once to test drive it and put down a deposit, and the other was to drive it home.

It would be fun to drive one back from BC, but not really necessary when you can buy one closer to home for less money.

At any rate, good luck with your search

Phil
