International Vehicle Owners Association of Canada (IVOAC)

I see from some of the posts that the possibility of a 25 year old import limit is still being discussed. Good! A new association is being formed (International Vehicle Owners Association) as I type this message. It will represent the interests of ALL people who own or would like to own a vehicle imported under the 15 year old Transport Canada (TC) rule. Hopefully within the next few days a web site (vioac.ca) will be operational. Incorporation of the Association will probably take more time, as it would have to be federally incorporated. The IVOAC web site will be a place to get educated on the issues, to provide options for political action, and to be a clearing house for information for all International Vehicle Owners. The JDM Owners are just one small group who would be affected by a 25 Year rule. Statistics show that there are many more vehicles imported in to Canada from other locations in the world. So, there are many people who would or will be affected.

I have communicated with Mark and he has agreed to post key information from the Association on the forum.

For now, you can visit http://www.luxuryimports.ca/index.php for updates on information which you can use to write to your elected officials: MLAs, MPs, Ministers related to the issues.

Cheers, John

just a reminder for people to check out http://www.ivoac.ca/ and join the fight to keep importing these vehicles, if we do nothing then we will no longer be able to bring in the vehicles we desire.

Hope they pick that for a bumper sticker.

IVOAC has suggested a import owners meet in major cities and it would be important for as many Delica owners to attend.

There could be a competition to see what import vehicle shows in the greatest numbers, ya know encourage the competitive spirit for a good cause.

If the import owners meet goes ahead - and I hope it does - everyone attending must make sure that their vehicles comply with BC MVA standards. I expect everyone has already made sure their vehicles comply. But just incase, right now as I understand it this means:
Correct headlights
Correct tires (DOT or SAE certified)
Daytime Running Lights
All lights, horn, etc in good working order

Also, people's vehicles should be clean and shiney. I expect that the media would be invited, so it would be good to be out there to impress.

Found on the Roverlanderes and BC4x4:

At least it puts the pressure on inspectors and importers to make sure the vehicles meet requirements. I hope this issue will go away once they are comfortable with the inspectors doing their job.

My delica is awaiting inspection and the shop where I am taking it recived the same letter and now does not want to complete the inspection. The owner said that he will get it ready for the inspection, but does not want to complete the paper work to pass the inspection. He does not want to put his shops licence on the line. He is worried that the government is going to start coming down hard on inspection facitlies. Also it is now a multi day event. Even if your delica need nothing but the regular(headlights daytime running lights ect.) you have to summit photos and the photos have to be reviewed by the goverment before your car is able to be driven. This is alright I guess it is just one more thing we can do to show the goverment the we are serious about importing and maintaining our cars, but I just want to drive my new delica.

ok... ok... this has been brought up many times, but I just felt it was time to give this post a "bump", it is important that we all do our part on this, or we won't be able to continue to import these fabulous vehicles!

And for anyone who says "but I already have mine" just imagine how much harder it will be to get parts if the importers go out of business... and what if you are in an accident and need to replace it? not to mention the inspection and insurance problems...

PLEASE, everyone get involved in this fight!

Morning guys,
When i started IVOAC back in Jan, i had no idea how much a site like that one would mean to everyone and how much support we would get. each committeee member has been working hundreds of hours a month to get the information out to the owners of imported vehicles.
the membership has been growing steady. the topics are extensive. the information we have uncovered is unbelievable.
-we succeded in having a illegally siezed unit released and returned to the rightful owner and his case "reopened" by TC 8)
8) -we have motivated Mike Woods and Brian to accept JIS and "E" code lighting. 8)
-We have moved TC to do a review in April instead of signing the proposed change in the second quarter (we are not even close to being out of the woods yet) :D  8)
-we are monitoring the insurance companies
-we are making suggestions to TC on how we can work together to keep the 15-year rule in effect.
-the number of reports that will be released in the next 2 weeks will be quite a few covering a range of topics
-we are nearing 350 members since the sites inception. 8)
-we are stiving to see that the inspection facitlities are workign along the same guidelines

it has been a lot of hard work for the committee members but with the help of the brothers we have succeeded beyond my wildest dreams in such a short period of time. a huge "THANKS" goes out to all the brothers that joined the fight.
I ask all who have not joined or visited the site to do so. get some cards and hand them out, purchase the stickers from Dayrl and stick them on the back of your rigs. show that you support the fight for right.

just because you own a unit now doesn't mean you won't want to upgrade in the future or in the case of an accident it would be nice not to have to wait 25-years to find a replacement.

cheers guys.
