Long Distance travellers-to-be

Hi Everyone
We (wife and I) are planning to head back to South Africa...and a Delica is going to be a part of the plan.
Looking at driving across the continent from Vancouver to Montreal/Maritimes, putting the van on a boat to Germany, driving through Europe, ferry to Egypt then the long way down to SA. A yet to be acquired Delica L400 diesel looks to be a great choice as 4M40 is a popular motor in Africa.
Years ago as a student I did a circumnavigation of US/Canada in a beat old Plymouth Reliant station wagon so this is the next chapter
