how much power can an l300 handle before things start to go pop?
I am thinking of putting in a narrower, but deeper radiator with electric fan, then a intercooler beside it. After a better exhaust (thinking just a stack beside driver) , i'd turn up the boost and fuel. I would think that since wiki states the intercooler 4d56 gets 104 hp that something like that should be reasonable. Maybe, propane injection for those times when i need more.

Is it possible to go to 120hp range without worrying about breaking transmissions and other driveline components?

I remember hearing about a hyundai direct injection 4d56 that was around the 120hp mark, unless i am mistaken.....

Mitsubishi engineers thought 104hp was a good balance of power and reliability on the last indirect-injection 4D56s with intercooler and water-cooled turbo. You can probably make more power, but you'd be risking head failure- those pre-combustion chambers really are the weak link. (The current model direct-injection 4D56, as fitted to Mitsubishi Triton, makes 178hp and 400Nm of torque using the same block as the older indirect-injection engines, which suggests that the strength of crank, block, and bearings are not a concern.)

To figure out what your transmission can take, you'd probably need to research the model number and find out what else it was fitted to- that should give you an idea of the sort of power it can take, though usually a transmission is limited by torque more than by power. I'm wondering if the 6G72 engined Pajeros had the same gearboxes as our Delicas- they made around 140hp/200Nm.
