Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

PTO anyone?

Post by DeliMilkMan »

Hi there,

Just got my Deil undercoated today. Turns out there is a port on the side of the transfer case for a PTO. Anybody know anything about this?

A PTO is a "power take off" usually found on equipement such as tractors or heavy use trucks. If tractors, it is what is used to power implements such as snow blowers, bailers for hay, etc...trucks, usually they are used for winches. (Usually military applications) Direct connections like a PTO have splines like axles, and allow for incredible power.

Mine has a PTO as well, but don't know how easy it would be to find a winch to bolt on there. Good thing about PTO winch, along with the good power, is that it's not draining your battery. Bad thing is if engine dies, no winch.

Hey people.

I got my undercoating done in Brockville ontario, crappy town, but great undercoating. I used Krown. Canadian company, "enviromentally friendly", and relativley cheap 130 clams. And they washed afterwards too. They loved it of course, having never seen one before. They spray on the Krown, they drill small holes in the doors, and remove the tail lights, to spary all the way down the side, inside the body panels, under the van, in the fender wells, doors, rear tail gate, engine compartment, everywhere there is metal. Then they put some nice rubber plugs in where they drilled, with some goop on them to keep them in, and Bob's your unlce. lasts roughly one year, to 15 months.

I am thinking it would be a crazy deal having a winch under the side of the van...woo hoo! :D

Now the question I am sure many of us are thinking.... "Where can I find a direct drive winch for the Delica?"

That would be a welcome addition.

A friend was working on a 2.8 Pajero the other day then he noticed the winch on it was driven by PTO!

He'd never seen one before on a Mitsubishi and was quite surprised because he never even knew that Mitsubishi supplied PTO accessories! (It was a genuine Mitsy winch!)

When I told him about the PTO on the L300's (based on the info here....thanks guys... ) he said he would look into sourcing some more info about winches/linkages etc...

I'll ask him if he has any photos of the Pajero winch...

Regards for now,

Bruce.

any info about the winches would be great. I was thinking as soon as I get to nova scotia, I was going to find some sources in the UK for the PTO winches. However, more info the better I say. Glad to see that Mitsubishi is actually making winches though, very positive sign.

Cheers!

I would suggest using the PTO to power a hydraulic pump. You could then run hoses front and rear and have a light powerful hydraulic winch on a 2" receiver and move it front to rear as needed. Could also use the hydraulics for practical things like snow plows, wood splitters, lawn mowers, etc. Obviously a trailer hitch and front reciever mount would be requires as well.

If I ever get around to changing the alternator over, there will be a spare drive belt for onboard air, but where to mount it :?: :?: There is just not a lot of room under the "hood".

Just thought I'd bump this really old thread that I accidentally stumbled upon- I haven't heard of anyone running any hydraulics or winches off this in the three years since this thread. Anyone heard of this?

There is definitely something odd about this claim. For a PTO to work the transfer case would have to be in neutral, the Delicas don't have a neutral on the transfer case (maybe on the manual delicas? certainly not on the automatics)

So I'm going to say that most delicas do not have a PTO, and possibly no delicas have one.
