Jamming engine

I'm in the process of putting my new head on and I'm wondering what people do to jam the engine from rotating while they tighten the crank bolt? The manual assumes the engine is on a bench, not in situ. If it was a manual tranny you just pop it into gear, but alas this is an auto. 120ft pounds is a good heave, and while I've had luck by having a helper hold the cam and IP gears with a pair of wrenches, that's always a risky option. Is there a port to jam the flywheel somewhere?

Yeah there is an inspection cover in the front of the flywheel, at the bottom, I didnt do mine up to full, my buddy couldnt hold the cold chisel against the flywheel for the full amount, but I threadlocked it anyway, so not too worried.

it doesnt matter if you have a manual or automatic tranny....putting it in gear, 4low, ebrake etc. will not hold. there is too much give in the driveline, roll in the wheels etc. I had to lock my flywheel. I did this by removing the 'half circle' cover and putting a piece of steel from the tranny support beam to the flywheel gear teeth. I did this for both removal and installation of the crank bolt.

I've also acidentally removed the crank bolt by leaving a socket wrench on the crank bolt and turing over the engine. LOUD BANG..I was lucky and no damage though...lol, scared the crap out of me though.

This is generally how I break the bolt loose, kill the fueling by unplugging the stop solenoid or similar, then carefully brace a socket and one quick click on the starter and its loose.

Thanks all, I had a friend jam the flywheel and got the bolt tightened without any problem.
