Low power / broken rocker shaft

Hello again all,

This is further to an earlier topic - stalls when putting in gear: http://www.delica.ca/forum/stall-when-p ... 12400.html

My mechanic first changed the fuel filter. When that didn't help, he looked a little deeper and found the rocker shaft was broken in two places!

That was replaced, and the van ran great for about 30 km... then it suddenly lost power again and now is in bad shape again. Idling rough, sounds like it is not firing all cylinders. I am concerned the rocker shaft is going to break again / has broken again because of some underlying cause that I can't identify.

Any ideas?

leakdown and compression test first to see if it's breathing inside

Have you checked the timing belt and tensioner?

Falco.

Just an update on this, in case anyone else ends up in the same boat:

Problem was that broken rocker shaft caused a crack in one of the rocker arms, so after a few kms of use, a rocker arm broke. New rocker arms installed, and now runs like a top!

Glad everything worked out for you, Professor, did it set you back much?

Yes, yes it did. The mechanics here were good about it -- didn't charge me the total number of hours they put into it, just trying to figure out the problem in the first place -- but the rocker shaft job was $1000 and the rocker arms $600.
