Hey guys, made my first crude folding sleeping platform with a 6' piano hinge.
However, near the one end, some of the 3/4 inch plywood surface is spintering/lifting.
Is there a way to remedy this? Other than covering the ends in Red Green style duct tape?

get a piece of angle metal with holes and screw it to the top edge as this will be the spot that will see the most action.... ( tried hard not to make it sound naughty but It didn't work... sorry.... lol )

Look in one of the bigbox hardware stores for plastic edging you can glue into place. It is a square 'U' shape and comes in thicknesses to match your plywood. I wouldn't use it for nice millwork piece but it would be fine for a more rudimentary setup. Alternatively you can router the edge with a 1/4" round-over bit if you have such a beast.

Splinters in a shaggin' wagon can be such a buzzkill....... usually....

Now, you can't just tease us and not post pics of your setup...

Thanks guys, I routered a roundover edge around the perimeter, worked pretty well, but the seperating is a little more advanced.

Sanded everything and it's pretty smooth. I like the idea of the plastic edges. Maybe I'll do something simliar but a 4-5" wide piece. Planning to do a couple coats of varathane too - maybe that will help smooth things out even further.

Probably won't post pics - too embarrased comparing what I've done to some of you other craftsmen.... Was just looking for an alternatice to bouncing around on one of those thick queen size air matresses. Going to use what I've made and some those new super thick therma-rests...

Very well Sanded to a roundy edge, then painted with thick marine gelcoat. All Happy. Christine.
