Problems with the glow plug controller box

Hi there,

Ive been having a hell of a time with my glow plug controller box. (located behind driver's seat, where the seatbelt attaches to the wall) Sometimes it would work fine and sometimes no clicks at all, requiring warming the glow plugs off the battery with jumper cables. The guys at CC autos figured the most likely problem was non-Mitsubishi glow plugs or the temp sensor so they changed both but that didn't fix the problem. I had them send me a new glow plug controller unit and after I installed it, it seemed to work for the first day. (although strangely there was no second click unless the key was turned back one spot) However come the next morning absolutely no function and it hasn't worked since. I even tried taking it out again and re-installing in case the connection was loose, but to no avail. Even CC Autos seems stumped. (I know, shocking) Does anyone have any experience with something like this?

Thanks for any help,

John

Have you looked into replacing the actual solenoid(s) that actually makes the clicking noise? Mine ceased clicking, so the guys at CVI got me setup with some rebuilt ones and I'm clicking once again.

Check the relay/contactor/solenoid (whatever you want to call it!)

X2

Should be two sets of wires, large ---> glow plugs, small ---> control from glow plug controller. Disconnect both of the small wires and run bat voltage across the termals of the relay to actuate..... click is good"ish" and no click is bad"ish"

good"ish" = relay ok, B U T that means probably a problem with wiring or glow plug controller
bad"ish" = relay broken, replay and problem solved!

Good luck and happy clicking!

Any idea how expensive this kind of thing could be?

Will inform you once mine is done.
The further from the coast you are the higher the bill seems to go though....
