danfromvan wrote:Mine does exactly the same as Falco's, although I usually take it out of overdrive about 1/3 of the way up and pop it back in by the upper Lynn Valley exit. If I get behind someone going slower than 80 for even a few seconds, then I'm usually only doing 75 at the top. We both have 2-1/2" exhausts (cf 2" stock).
Ditto.

I hate running it at 3000rpm. Yet with the whole clan I average 70 (60 if I have to slow down).

Just how big is the whole clan? I'm only talking 2 people. With 2 more adults in the back I lose about 5-8kph going up the cut.
3,000 rpm is no problem if it's only a few minutes at a time. You'd no doubt want to slow down on the CocaCola to limit the revs longer term. I haven't driven that yet.

Do between 3-3,400 up the cut.
If you go below 2,800 up the cut, your turbo will look like a granny smith red apple with hints of glowing orange.
Take a look next time you fly up there. It gets HOT !
The higher RPM's will help cool it better.

Considering that the red line begins at 4,750RPM then I think three grand is fine. Like jfarsang says ~ you get more circulation at 3,000 than at 2,000RPM ergo the engine stays a little cooler. Think about it... How many RPMs are you doing when you're doing 110KPH on the Number One for great lengths of time?

WOW!
I never knew that.
I thought the lower rpm the better.
Thanks.

I used to think that the slower the RPM, the less fuel I would use. Yet for some reason I use less fuel overall doing 100 KPH than at 80 KPH (Trans-Canada One between North Van & Aldergrove).
