As the others have stated, we didn\\\\\\\'t have the knowledge 3 to 4 years ago that we have today. I highly doubt the seller meant to harm or rip anyone off. That delica looks solid. No rust after 4 years!! I think that shows the high quality high vehicles this importer deals with.
You are misinformed.
The government compliance act rules that apply today have not changed.
People didn't start importing used vehicles 3-4 years ago.
People have been importing vehicles for decades.
Same rules applied then and they apply now.
The original poster is me, and I will not stand aside watching people both private and dealer cheat the government inspection system and have the onus sit on the new unsuspecting owner.

What you are looking for is an 'E' on the lens - this is what the inspector will be looking for.

the correct ones will have an E and a number in a circle (usually E4 or E13) immediately above or below the circle will be an arrow indicating the aim of the headlights, this is the important part, this indicates which way the light pattern points

Sigh... I'm SO glad I bought my L400 from Brave Auto in Japan.
It came with compliant lights and the tires etc were done at Josef Auto in Bby. I have a perfectly compliant van with no issues and which I love more and more all the time. You can't put a dollar value on peace of mind.
Cheers!

The Rules 3/4 ago were the same they just weren't clear on alot of things, however with lots of time and work, some people from IVOAC helped clearify things for us in BC. (The accepting of E code for Example, and Tires with Load Ratings.. )

I saw a place (I won't name the dealer) that has 3 Delica's for sale on Vancouver Island that have non-compliant headlights. Pity, because one of the Deli's there looks to otherwise be in fantastic shape.
I forgot to take my cell phone out and take photos of the lights.

some dealers don't complete the compliance work until someone actually buys the vehicle, so just because the one on the lot doesn't have them doesn't mean it won't... it does mean however that you need to be extra cautious.

This is a very valid topic of discussion, but tell me, what is all the nice-guy discretion about when it comes to "not mentioning any names..." ?
Isn't the whole point of this forum to be sharing valuable information concerning these vehicles? And isn't honest feedback about good dealers and bad dealers, not to mention outright crooks amongst the most valuable information, especially for first time buyers earnestly seeking advice?
How many of us need to get ripped off over and over before justice catches up with the crooks?
So, please tell me, why are we withholding this information (those of us, that is, who don't have handy photos of dealer decals on the van!)?
I am in the process of pursuing my dealer through CVSE and Motor Vehicles Sales Authority for lying to me and selling me a vehicle with a fraudulent inspection out of his own shop.

I have moved this thread to "Dealer Feedback, Beefs & Bouquets". I have left a shadow link in "General", which will remain there for a week or so.

I chose not to name the dealer as I don't know if they update the lights after the fact as Green 1 mentioned. I also looked at the vans without the salespeople around, so I don't know if they actually make them compliant after the fact. Furthermore, I am 99% certain that this dealer does not frequent this website, and thus would be unable to mount a defense to any accusations I might have, and that is patently unfair.

RHD and LHD headlights look identical except for the E-code or lack of markings. If you look inside closely you can also see the different cuts for aiming.
Dood, look who you bought the van from.
I would think a longtime contributor and Delica-gear fabricator would not sell his personal Delica with illegal headlights.

i was hoping you would speak up, koots. you have told me of the problems you were having with your dealer. so sorry that they continue. i encourage you to post details here on the forum. especially considering that your dealer is the dealer "not" mentioned in the original post
