L400 DRL questions???
Has anyone found wiring at the L400 headlight that can be used as DRL wiring, on as soon as the key is turned? I didn't but I'm just an amateur....

Is there a bulb bright enough to be used in the E code headlight DRL socket to satisfy the DRL police?

Where are you guys tieing in to power the lo side of the DRL relay on the L400? What colour wire? I thought the fuse box might have something I could tie into rather than at the steering column.

You won't find anything like that already at the headlight, you'll have to run it from the fuse box or the steering column.

No. the "City light" socket in the headlights is only for show, and not to be used as DRL, the bulbs that fit it simply aren't bright enough, and one that would be bright enough would probably also throw off too much heat and risk melting some plastic in there. I use the "city light" in conjunction with the LED DRLs listed earlier, I find it looks neat, but that's about it.

I didn't actually do the wiring in the L400, so I can't really tell you, mardy did it on my Delica, At some point I'm sure I'll be in there re-wiring, and I'll try to document things at that time (but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for me...)

PIIA make a #7440 27W and Polarg make a #7440 21W bulb used by Honda Accord in 2010 as a tail light. They have the same connector pattern as the little 58S "city light" presently in the new headlights.

Is there anything that says you can't use that connector and a brighter bulb ie 7440 for DRLs??

The city-light bulb is not aimed "optimally" for the reflectors, so I suspect even a 27w bulb may not be bright enough or end up coming out the front aimed very well, in addition, I'm not sure I'd want to put a 27w bulb in a socket designed for a 5w bulb, that's a lot of extra heat in a place not designed for it.

I suppose you could try it, I'm just not optimistic it will end up with the desired results (and if there is too much heat, the plastic immediately surrounding the socket may end up melting/scorching a bit)

Black wire w/ blue stripe.

There are 6 of them in the wire cluster that is wrapped in black flexible plastic/tape that runs out from under the fuse box beside the air cleaner.

With a test light, you can find the correct one that provides voltage when the key is in the 'on' position, does not provide voltage when the key is 'off' and in accessories mode 'acc'.

I use that to tap into for the DRL with an inline 10amp fuse and standard relay.

This puts the DRL's on it's own circuit and won't affect the headlights or switch.

Mardy installed these on my ride about 5 months ago.I am totally happy with with them no problems at all.They look awsome at night..

Awesome looking led's. They'll be my first choice if I can't put an LED or small halogen bulb inside the headlights. Price is good!

Wouldn't it be better to have the LED's (DRL's ) off when the headlights were on? or was the pic just for display?

Do you have a watt, lumen or candelas rating for that light?

That is nice one you put in your delica a led strip light bulb. Well I’ve been planning also to put a led light bulb like yours but I am choosing if I will change my tail light into a led light bulb or that strip led light. It is much look beautiful the delica if we put an led light strip like that.

Not only would it be better, the law requires it. I find the strip LEDs aren't bright enough to really attract attention. I'm hoping that in the next year or so higher power ones will become available. When that happens I'll replace my H3 lights with LEDs.

Quite true. I saw some lovely LED offroad lights, a 2" x 2" x 2" cube, puts out the equivalent of 100W halogen, but draws only about 2 Amps. Only problem is they are $140 each, and I would love to have 10 of them (2 front and 2 rear ditch lights, backups, and 4 forward facing offroaders). So I had to pass!
