Hey Delicat!

Okay... again... sorry for missing your post on the other thread... between my office computer and home computer I overlooked something there somehow...

Anyway, if you still need assistance or advice on anything you are welcome to PM me... home "proper" is in Ocean Park (White Rock-ish).

Now... I looked under my Deli to see about protecting the transfer case and... ... there's a lot going on under there! High centering would reveal the tranny pan AND transfer case are very vulnerable. Both fuel tanks have some protection, tho I wouldn't want to test the strength of those (unless someone already has). Rear driveshaft is soooo short it wouldn't require a hoop. A good "stuffing" into the ground of the front shaft could really do some nice work on the transfer case and mounts, etc. but thankfully it is protected from doing so by the cross frame engine mount tube at the rear of the engine.

Sooo... a nice strong skid plate covering transmission and transfer case with access holes for drains seems to be in order. I think something strong enough to withstand "some weight" if driving or being pulled off a high center situation....
Have to look harder to see about mounting opportunities rearward but there are 2 bolts on the cross frame tube that would be helpful perhaps.

Time to break out the cardboard template making equipment! Are you in this neck of the woods David?

Hey all.
For those considering the steel one.. It will not be ghetto !! It will be the strongest. IT is hard ox. The same stuff put into dump truck beds as a liner !! I can paint them silver black red white etc....etc... or have them line x'ed or rhino treated..
They will out last the van.... Stainless is nice too and i will work on getting a price by friday... these puppies are 4 squre feet of sheet metal ..........really !! It is still just in the design stage. I am working on a design that will let tons of air in but also help with those pesky sticks you all seem to worry about. lol's....

I don't have a van yet (seven months and counting....and it looks like now i am out of luck and not going to be able to get my van or my money !!) SO it is hard for me to do a quick design and fabrication. I cand cut and fit.... so to speak. Delicat is being extreamly helpful with this as he is bringing me the skid plate and his van to fit it to.

I will bring some to a meet and install them for you for free if you buy one when they are done.....( please clean your underbellies first !!)

Seems I'm the only one interested in the Aluminum - it's light, and I like the colour - and considering where it is going - it doesn't need to be bullet proof, just keep the crap out....anyway - I'm interested in whatever gets made and happy with the $150 price tag - but do prefer an aluminum copy if possible. Tks for all!!!!! Looking forward to it. Will look great now that the front end is all up in the air and the 31" are on!

Jrman,

The aluminum that fishslapper is working with is neither for the faint of heart. It will be quite strong, maybe not like the steel he'll be using but it won't be for show only. It will take an abuse!

I'd like to throw a bunch of big STARS to fishslapper. Don't know if everyone remembers his situation but he bought a Delica through JDM Wholesalers before they flew out of the country after being shut down and running away with lot's of victim's money.

Since their van had landed they were still hoping to get it once the lien got dealt with but the shipping company isn't interested in releasing it and as he mentioned, sounds like he'll be loosing a dream along with all his money.

Now fishslapper is still out there for us helping us to make skip plates on his own time although their's no longer a van waiting for him around the corner. Now that's commitment! I wish I knew what to do to help him out. He's just like all of us, with a nice family, a regular job and a VERY comprehensive wife...

Hijacking the thread here but just can't help it. I get infuriated just thinking about it! It could have happened to any of us...
Sorry for the venting. Did I say those aluminum plates will be dead strong?

Just went back over who's interested, close to 15! Not bad at all.

Jaggedfish, keep us posted with the back end of things... I'm sure there's gonna be just as much interest!

Will do!

Can anyone offer up standard sheet size measurements for plate steel? Would like to factor in efficiency of cuts to minimize waste and thus cost.

On the topic of Fishslapper losing his dream at this point... yeah a big set of clapping hands to him for his continued contributions. Will have to think about your comments regarding help some more....

Hats off!
Ian

wow !!! lots of interest. That is great. It is taking coordination with 4 or 5 people to pull this off so please give me a little time...
Not too long, just a week or so. I wish i could run all the machines and do the programming myself .I have just about got the drawing done to submit to the plasma guy. I will give that to him on monday.
I think the aluminum ones will be the lightest (not that weight seem to be an issue too much. ) and plenty strong. Let me get these done and i could probably work something out for other various places needing skid plate protection.. I am getting stressed out about this now.... i was only going to make one or two. I just want these to turn out nice for everyone now that there is so much interest.. :o

Easy my friend. Don't let this stress you out. Relax and remember that all of us wanting these plates (I have settled on a white, maybe black steel one, btw ) are grateful for your efforts and, if I might be so bold as to assume I can speak for the others, have no desire to pressure you or to make this a stressful deal for you. Do what you can or want to do. And remember, we all drive delicas so are seldom in a rush :M :-D :-D
