You guys need to do whatever you can to get Felix onboard for some articles - I've been lucky enough to be invited to see the images of his 2 year epic trip as he progressed - and he has the most amazing images and experiences I have ever seen. Not to mention the way he equipped his van. He's coming home soon I hear - he is a talented graphic designer too.

It would be nice if Felix didn't get his nose outta joint and leave in a huff. What a loss, just as they were setting out on their adventure. I wasn't so lucky and got no invitation to see his photos, much as I might like to. I love the trip reports and dispatches, from the day trips to the multi-year epics that people post here. I miss Jfarsang and Green1 too. Controversial now and then, for sure, and argumentative too, especially Green1. I still wish none of them had left. I have no problems with the formate here either. Most of the forums that I have been involved in have made major modifications that I never appreciated. Just like delicas - I like my L-300 and see no advantage in changing it for a dramatically different L400.
I would, however, be plenty happy to have a magazine dedicated to delicas. When I had my old VW bus I loved magazines with articles about mechanical and road trip adventures. Not interested in a general RHD to the same degree though, at all. I'd pay a subscription for a delica magazine, but would only buy a general RHD mag which had a delica article that interested me, maybe. Good luck with the project!

We could even put it at the checkout stand in the grocery store so all the soccer moms could drool over our sweet-ass vans.

Hey Cregan, if you look in your latest issue of VW Camper & Bus, you'll see me in there with my '79 Westy. I'm in the weekend away section with a buddy. We toured the east coast of Canada last summer over the month of August doing a bunch of different shows. I'm big in Japan!! Lol
What month was that? The most recent I have is the one with the modded Champagne Edition on the front. I have them all for the past 3 years though. My favorite day of the month is new mag day. Luckily it coincides with my wifes least favorite day of the month, so it gives me a reason to ignore 8-) .

It sounds like not everyone's keen on a magazine featuring all jdm's (I'm happy with variety) but also, there probably isn't enough interest in Delica's alone. Maybe a good compromise would be a "JDM 4x4" magazine?

Did you mean "keen"?

Regardless, there's enough interest to keep people coming back to this forum, but if it was wholly Delica, yes that would be limiting. JDM vans. JDM 4X4. RHD overlanding in a LHD world. Boxy 4x4's from the '80s. Whatever you call it, if you put the right content and effort into it, people will want to read it and become involved.

Find the market, find the niche. Expand after establishment. Be willing for the expansion to not work and shrink back down to the base idea.

Agreed. I know I am a newbie here, but I do have a background in publishing both online and in print... though I have noticed that my skillset for the online stuff is sadly behind the times <thinks delica.ca is fine> as the "kids" keep changing the technology on me (WTF is Drupal??). Fortunately, print seems to remain relatively consistent.

I think that there is a happy medium between the two. Produce your mag as a PDF document (chances are that you'd do this anyway to send final copy to your printer) and create a nice website for folks to sign-up for a the automatic monthly download. The website would have advertiser info, back issues available and upcoming topics/requests etc etc.

By producing it as a PDF rather than just web pages, you can produce a document that has full resolution photos (not 72 dpi lol), font choices and layout and colours that won't change depending on what browser version you're using. Incorporate links in the PDF such that it can reference other online source material with a click. If readers choose, they can print it so they don't have to take their tablet into the washroom. ;-)

All the advantages of print at the price point of web...

Right on!! Anyway it's the January 2013 issue. There's a custom bay window camper called the rubber tramp on the front cover. They sent me a few copies for free cause I contributed the article. Now I just have to get my Delica on the front cover of.........
