I'm looking at an 8' tent trailer hoping to keep it as light as possible. I think dry it weighs around 1200 lbs?? I just thought I'd mention that I just did my wiring on the van last night. It took 20 minutes, to take off the rear light covers, splice into the wires and connect the converter kit. I was surprised how simple it was, because I've never done it before. The kit I bought was $18 at u-haul....
My tent trailer is about 800kg loaded, and we didn't have any trouble towing that. I wouldn't want to go much over a tonne, but that's just me.

As for the wiring of the trailer lights, make sure you go from the three-light arrangement to the two-light arrangement. Nearly all trailers (and vehicles too) on this continent incorporate the turn signal into the brake light, while our vans have those separated. Also, make sure the ground is solid (both on the van and on the trailer) or you get all kinds of trouble with the lights on the trailer.

Apline in Victoria did a nice job on my custom hitch. Nothing too fancy but it is strong enough to carry 12 cubes of oil (20L each, ~240kg.)

This link has good info on towing if anyone else on here is searching:

Jyst of it is that the L400 2.8 can tow up to 3500kg in the UK. Most MODUK members tow around 2000kg without issue. L300 is less.

I am planning on towing a Starcraft 18ft trailer, 3500 lbs. Guessing it will not be an issue with a proper Class 3 hitch.
