ive changed my mind on chains also,good rubber will do.
Good rubber is a must, but I always pack the chains anyways when heading to the interior.
Never had to use them so far, but it's just as with the booster battery kit, tool case, and a patch kit/compressor.
Just something to have on long trips for the extra peace of mind.
