A PC1500 has the best characteristics of the two Optima batteries in a single battery.
I'm not very familiar with batteries, but on the Optima website is written "Dual Purpose (Starting and Deep Cycle) Batteries" for the YellowTop version. It sounds like the same as the Odyssey.

I try to find a big "leisure" battery (stored in the van) which is also able to boost my Delica if the car battery is dead.

The yellow top is definitely not a dual purpose battery like the Odyssey. It's 'okay' but not a true deep cycle battery.

The blue top can be used as a deep cycle battery in conjunction with a yellow top as the starter.

Optima and Odyssey AGM's are very different from each other.

I used a yellow top (starter) and blue top (deep cycle) combo for a while. It was hard to beat until they crapped out without warning. You'll hear/read mixed feelings about Optima reliability.

Picked up one of these to replace the 'pair' in the Chamonix.

The one Odyssey battery is the equivalent to about 4-5 normal batteries + more. 1,500 cold crankin' amps for 5 seconds !

http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery ... series.htm

It doubles as a deep cycle battery as well. 4 year free replacement warranty. Can't beat that.

Came out to $210 + taxes for the PC1500 version with dual terminal posts.

Not bad considering the retail/list is $500 and current online is $350+
How did you manage to get such a good deal from Polar? I just called them to see if they had these in stock and what the price was, and they quoted $350.

Don't forget that this thread is six years old and prices have gone up a little since then.

I first went to Polar when I got my Delica, they sold me deep cycle batteries instead of starters. At the time with my limited knowledge I thought I'd found a really good source. I'm thinking that either the guy didn't really know what he was talking about or he felt I should have been more patriotic and purchased an American product ~ really I don't know. What I do know is I discovered a battery supplier at the other end of Burnaby called "Edmonds Batteries" (on Edmonds) whom are friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, reasonably priced and supply a wicked warranty.

Falco.

I just dealt with my battery(s) as well. I had the dual setup, but after a lot of reading and lurking on here, i replaced with one. The research on here said to go with the single Odyssey, when I called a local shop for a price it was 360 here in NS. The same(ish) battery at Canadian Tire http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/motom ... 6550p.html was 320. So, to save a few bucks I went with the single CT battery. It took me 3 different CT's and 2hrs of my life before I found one with the right battery in stock. It was a busy saturday morning with parts kids working behind the counter who didn't really know much...so, needless to say I was pretty cranky by the time I hit my third CT. When the kid rang in my battery he typed in the wrong part number 10-7580 (correct battery is 10-7850) - so it rang in as 160 after tax. I guess I am a bad human, b/c I didnt say anything and waked out there with a good deal and did a little happy dance. :)
I also took my alt to a shop for testing and check out. They found some bad solder joints and it that it was over charging, also gave it a good clean...they fixed me up for 50 bucks. Thank you to the "Details Monster' user who wrote the alt removal step by step process on here...It was golden.
My baby starts wonderful now...and i even think it runs better and the battery fixed my potential / maybe head gasket issue...:) :)
