I am resurrecting this post to report that my van no longer spews forth the fog of death. I recently had the no-click glow plug problem. To make a long and boring story short, I had my glow plug controller reconditioned and got 4 genuine Mitsubishi glow plugs installed by Coombs Country Autos, who as always, were great to deal with.

My van now starts immediately after the glow system warms and no longer pushes black when accelerating. For me this is a big deal - since purchasing my van I have had starting and black smoke issues. For all those out there who had / have this frustration, perhaps your glow system circuit board is starting to die, and your problems will not be resolved by only replacing your glow plugs.

I recently broke one of the connection on one of my glow plugs, and that made starting hugely harder, lots of smoke, taking 10-20 seconds of cranking when temperatures are around zero. I've got a new set on order. Yes, glow plugs makes a difference.
