Headlight Problem
Hey guys,
I tried looking around for similar problems for a while in old threads but couldn't find a similar situation.
I also might have already figured it out, but here goes anyways. The DRL on the driver's side went out. I checked the bulb and it wasn't burnt out. Verified when I swapped it into the passenger side light. I also tried plugging in the entire passenger side headlight into the driver side, which worked and eliminated any fuse or shorting problems (I think). I put the driver side light back and replaced the quick connects attached the the bulb, as they looked a little corroded, which actually got the light working again. After a week or so of working, the driver side light is out again and I'm kind of lost. Could the plastic connector that connects the headlight to the van's wiring be at fault here?
Any help here is appreciated, and I think I also need to head out and buy a multimeter anyways.

Re: Headlight Problem
Hi,
Regarding the electrical problem....The connectors in the DRL ( daytime running light?) maybe corroded or bent.
You can try contact cleaner and a brass brush on the connectors themsleves.
With a multi meter verify voltage at van side of the wiring and then check for voltage at the socket (bulb removed but DRL unit hooked up) this should isolate where the problem is in the circuit.
Let me know what you find out.

Re: Headlight Problem
be sure that the bulbs and their terminals arent grounding out. but the very best solution for common
headlight problems related to DRL: toss the DRL. i have never heard of anybody getting in trouble for not having them

Does that apply to US imports as well? Because I see a lot of vehicles that don't have them, including my truck.New Deli wrote:Daytime running lights are mandatory in Canada.

yes of course they are mandatory. but the DRL installs cause endless headaches. i say rip it out, or just defuse it, and turn on your headlights in the daytime.
as for US imports, i think mandatory means mandatory, but perhaps shops are passing them anyway

It's illegal to drive in built up areas with high beams on. Just as it is illegal to walk around town with a drawn long gun, even if you call it a personal safety device and only use .22 cal rounds in it. I get blinded by Jeep Patriots and many other vehicles with their high beams wired up as so called DRLs.

Re: Headlight Problem
So in essence we are not required to have DRL's on our Delica's? I thought they were mandatory to pass inspection!?FalcoColumbarius wrote:It's illegal to drive in built up areas with high beams on. Re: Headlight Problem
Sounds like poor ground-negative connection at the light bulb.Where the spring holds in the low beam lightbulb in the headlight housing.Got so fed up with this problem in the Tardis Deli i solder a ground wire directly to the low beam light bulb.

I think this is probably the problem. I couldnt really figure anything else out, also, once I plugged everything back in, i just give the headlight a good slap and the light comes on. I'll try re-soldering a ground when i find some more time.
Thanks for all the input!

Only on vehicles newer than 1990. Simple.New Deli wrote:Daytime running lights are mandatory in Canada.
Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 requires DRLs on all new vehicles made or imported after January 1, 1990
