Pajero dashboard warning lights question

Post by GISdood »

I started up the Pajero (1993 Exceed LWB 2.8TD) to head home from a ballgame this evening... and was greeted with 3 new warning lights that I hadn't seen before.

The lights would dim slightly as RPMs went up, but would never turn off completely.
Anyone have any input on what this combination of lights may mean?

Hey,
My first check would be the alternator/charging system/battery.

Good luck 8-)

I posted in the POCUK forums... and that seems to be the consensus over there as well - the alternator is failing.

Check your transmission fluid right away. When did you last change it or the tranny filter? When you check it, apart from being at the right height on the dipstick (whilst the engine is running on level ground), the fluid should also be pink on a white rag.

Voltage regulator on the alternator is fluctuating causing the flashing 3 common lights : alt / trans / coolant.

That is the correct indication for a dying alternator. It's a similar indication to that of the L300.

you either have 3 completely unrelated issues (unlikely)
or the common charging system issue, my L300 did exactly that when my cranskshaft pulley failed (belt no longer spinning the alternator)
check that your belts and pulleys are tight, if they are, check that the alternator is good, and all electrical connections are tight.

After having a local auto-electric rebuilder have a look at the alternator, it seems that its the rectifier that has failed. So a rebuild will likely require a new voltage regulator as well.

Let the parts search begin. Wheee.
