Sap/resin stains... or bumps....

Not actually stains... more like bumps... I had the Van parked under some trees last Summer and sap must have dripped down onto the Van. I wash the Van more or less regularly - but never really got into the polishing thing... now I just polished like heck on Sunday and these sap-bumbs won't come off... I tried to scrape some off with my fingernails - but that is virtually futile and useless... I then tried to polish right on the bump and I don't think it had any impact whatsoever... I guess, the only good thing is that somehow the bumps are almost glass-clear and it is therefore the same color as the Van... but I would still like to get that stuff off....

Does anybody have any ideas - obviously don't want to use a chisel or a screwdriver...

WD40 and patience. Just use your finger, not a scrubpad.

Wash with soap and rinse afterwards.

Hot water and soap worked for me in the past. There are pressure-wash places that use hot water not cold, if you shop around. "Green" car washes use cold water.

Those trees are all over Vancouver. Someone told me that the city bought a huge order of them back in the 60s, not realizing that they dump sap all over cars.

Hi!

It maybe worth trying kerosene. I used that in removing bubble gum, bitumen residues and some sap. It is generally gentle on car finishes. As a rule of thumb tho, test on a small spot first.

Well, thanks for all the tips... I will be doing some research/tests on the coming weekend... I will proceed in the following order

WD40 and Finger - if it doesn't do the trick:
Rubbing Alcohol - if it doesn't do the trick:
Hot Water and Soap - if it doesn't do the trick:
Goo Gone or Citrus-ly - if it doesn't do the trick:
Butter or Cooking oil - if it doesn't do the trick:
Lighter Fluid - if it doesn't do the trick:
Some Turtle Wax Product - if it doesn't do the trick:
Claybar - if it doesn'd to the trick:
Kerosene - and if this doesn't do it... :
I'll take the angle grinder and "grind it out"

If claybar doens't work, a claymore will. Might damage other parts too, but would make a great YouTube video.
