Glow Shifts 3 in 1 Gauge
As a couple people know i bought one of glow shifts 3 in 1 gauge combos. i currently have the boost and pyrometer installed (the pyro wires ended up just reaching for people that read the other post) anyways, now i need to make a choice of the third gauge reading oil, coolant or transmission temperature. which one is the most to know in the delica and which one is the easiest to install (drilling through metal isn't really my fortay apparently)?
so for those who skim through threads. WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE oil, coolant or transmission temperature?

is there not already a coolant (engine temp) gauge in the dash?
are you using the the oil or transmission options as a diagnosing tool??? only reason i would ever want to see these temps is if i thought they were getting too hot. and if they were, I would think about installing a cooler for them.
i know some vehicles have a transmission cooler (not unlike the power steering cooler)
do any vehicles have an oil cooler? or do they just go the route of a larger oil pan and a larger quantity of oil?
could this sensor be used as an EGT sensor instead? or is that the pyrometer you mentioned. I know alot of people on this forum have gone that route.

From what I understand the Exhaust Gas Temperature meter and the Pyrometer are the same thing. The L300 Delica has five rads (Engine; Oil; Tranny; A/C1 & A/C2), except the manual L300s have only four. The L300 Delica has a water temperature gauge in the instrument cluster, however, the sensor for this gauge is located beside cylinder #1, directly behind the main fan, therefore not a precise measurement of engine temperature, merely a guideline. I have heard that when the 4D56 has blown it is usually cylinder #4 that goes first. The idea behind putting a pyro in is to get a better overview of where your engine is at, regarding temperature.

Is it giving you oil temp or oil pressure? If its is oil pressure I would opt for that.

i have an EGT (same thing as pyro) installed already. this sensor would measure temperature NOT pressure. i usually wouldn't bother installing any of these three, but it came with the combo and i don't want to just leave the digital screen blank

nice, well iv checked two of those off. however, my spare sensor is for temperature, so if you were to install another temp gauge would it be for coolant, oil or tranny fluid?

You should already have a gauge for coolant stock on your cluster, so I would scratch that off. That leaves you with Oil or Transmission temp. Which of those is more important is more of a measure of how you drive.

alright im gonna change the direction of this threat now (title still fits)
so im reading all over the forum tonz of boost pressure and pyro temps that differ from my own.
as stated earlier i have the glow shift 3 in 1 gauge combo seen here.

my boost gauge goes from 0-60 psi which is a little overkill and makes it harder to see accurate low psi levels. with that stated my gauge is reading ridiculously low at 3-5 psi. any ideas as to how it would read this low? is there something wrong with the gauge, hosing, or could my boost actually be that low (which would explain my delis redic low speeds up hill in comparison to other delicas.
as for pyrometer temperature readings, when driving 80 km/hr it reads at around 800 f. my probe is installed post turbo in the same location as irp374, seen here.

Sounds like you might have a couple of other issues Patty. If I'm not mistaken I've heard you mention your vans low power compared
to some others. Low boost could be caused by two things turbo or wastegate. If the wastegate is misadjusted it may be dumping
excess boost to early. Or the turbo may not be making enough pressure. Of the two I'd say the more likely is the wastegate adjustment. Its pretty easy to fix (there is an adjustable rod under the turbo) so thats good. The high pyrometer readings could
be a result of low turbo output. You have to work the engine much harder without boost, more fuel being burned by less air, this
could drive up exaust temp. Good luck.

To check your boost get a gauge that reads 0-20 psi from princess auto. You can make a temporary connection. The 0-60 psi range you have is far to high to give you any accuracy @ 10-15 psi. Once you know what it is you can extrapolate it to your gauge. Boost makes a lot of difference. If you really have only 3 or 4 psi and can crank it up to 10-15 psi you'll think your driving a rocket!!

thanks guys, yeah i was reading into the adjustment. i was just alittle concerned as to how it could be reading so low. perhaps my turbo is on its way out? ill quickly attach a lower reading boost gauge and compare. however, i remember when my engine was being frankenstiened back together at CVI, Butch noticed the turbo blades looken abit beat :(

i deff got a lemon of a gauge as it says it start to read at 200f and actually only starts at 400f!
