L400 - 4M40 (2800) Parts Cross-Reference List!

Post by jessef »

Here we go again, this time with the bigger diesel, available starting in JDM models in June of 1994. (driveline and suspension parts *should* be all the same as the North American Montero's equipped with the 3.5 gas engine, and larger running gear). We'll concern ourselves with engine parts primarily, in this thread...

Some guidelines:

-Turn OFF your signature PLEASE (just for this thread only)
-Try to refrain from chat/conversation in this thread - if you need to comment, make a separate post.
-Don't quote - just start another post.
-If someone has already posted with a part number, and you have another number to add for the same part, PM me, and I'll edit/add it to their post (since your edit privileges on your own thread expires after a short time). This will keep the part types together.
-Don't post your cross-ref number until you've tried it yourself
-Try to include the retailer where the part is available, if applicable.

The format we will use is:

Part name:

Part Brand and Number (retailers name)

Front and rear brakes are identical to North American Mitsubishi Montero 1994 (V6 model) for the exception of the front rotors only * see below.

Outer wheel bearing = BD50 (same as L300/Pajero/Montero)

Inner wheel bearing is different than all L300/Pajero/Montero's

I have cross referenced it but lost the part #. I will dig it up and post it back in here.

* The axle hub is different on the L400's. It is thicker on the inner section hence the larger diameter wheel bearing. It is not a common wheel bearing. In fact, I took it into 'the' bearing specialists in Port Kells and the Timken number did not show up although it was made in the USA. They did some research and it's a proprietary bearing made specifically for Mitsubishi only.

So you have two choices. Either get a new OEM one or match it up like I did with a North American SKF/Timken bearing with the same dimensions.

It's a cone bearing with a race. It has to be exact (replacement).

Jasper, those are Aussie numbers, no? If so could they be cross referenced by a Canadian supplier? I know when I gave the Japanese colour codes to a local paint supplier they had a cross reference match for them. When I have gone to various suppliers for parts enquiries they often have cross references available, OEMs being the best to go with. Perhaps we could use your post as an Aussie reference while the local parts numbers start to materialise.

Sounds good.

I entered as many number's on the Aussie list as I could in CAPS (north american parts) and only 2 out of the 200 hundred or so turned up.

I'm having better luck just replacing the parts on my own and matching them up at the parts stores once I have the L400 part in my hands.

So far, every part I've replaced has been from a Mitsubishi Montero 1995 V6 SR model for the exception of the front rotors and inner wheel bearings.

I've replaced the following so far based on the Montero (above) application :

Rear axle bearings, axle seals, brake calipers/rotors/pads, differential pinion seal (1995 Montero 'SR' model for Super Exceed and Royal Exceed with the 9.5" rear differential)

Front and rear driveshaft u-joints

Front inner/outer CV boots

Front calipers (be sure to match up yours (core charge) so that the brake hose lines up. Some aftermarket rebuilt one's may not.

Front brake pads

Front Axle seal (outer) and front outer bearing (same as older L300/Montero's from 1988 to 1998)

Pitman arm

lower ball-joint
outer tie rod

Front differential carrier bearings and seals

That's my list of what I've replaced on our L400 to date.

G'day.. It seems strange that something that has the genuine Mitsubishi part number that I presume the dealers use to restock from Japan should have a part number that you guys cant use. If the list i provided is muddying the waters, feel free to delete or modify or what ever . I am trying to help, not make it harder for you.. :-) :-) Cheers

No worries, mate. We can use all the information we can get. Some of this stuff I am "pretty sure" can be cross referenced. I am going to move it to it's own thread as a reference ~ it would be a shame to delete it... even if it doesn't directly apply to the Canadian market...

Actually Jasper, Many of us really appreciate your knowledge & input to Delica Canada, after all... we are brothers, no?

Has anyone noticed any quality differences between the FRAM and WIX fuel filters? They're both around 50 bucks at the parts stores, I think I'll grab whatever they use at Japanoid or something since its close, and apparently cheaper..

Jerry

this is not a discussion thread. It's for parts references only.

Stay away from Fram filters. Your oil with breakdown faster with Fram filters. They are poorly made. Google or search it.

The BD 7095 oil filter crosses to a Napa part number that is half the price of the BD 28
($21 vs. $40).
The K&N filter did not work on my van. The K&N part is open at both ends (top and bottom), and seals there. My van's AF is closed at the bottom and seals in the middle.
