funny enough the roof rack was easy and cheap enough to make out of exhaust pipe. There is a hinged door (the size of the sunroof) in the middle of the rack which allows me to open the sunroof and climb up onto the rack from the interior of the car. That way I do not really need a ladder. I thought that this would be a good theft deterrent. It worked well enough in Mexico as I left my Rocky Mtn bike and everything on the roof everytime I stopped and no thefts. I guess the van is so high up and visible that no one touched my things.

Nice Rack! Matches the crash bars/monkey bars.
I'm heading to Mexico soon, but haven't found a company which will insure a car over 15 years old! What did you do?

Hi Lost1,
Where about are you in Mx? It doesn't look like Baja... your last picture was great. I've been twice on month long road trip in Mx with my old VW bus but kept going around Baja. I won't have a hard time to convince my wife to do it with the Delica next time. It's a little more "advanced" than my the old '65 bus...
Enjoy the trip!

Hello lost1,
I'm planning a trip to Mexico in my new not-yet-purchased Deli. I'm really wondering what my fuel costs will be. Do you recall what you spent in fuel? Did you feel very rapidly drained of your savings or did you praise yourselves for not having to spend on accommodation? Did your roof racks add considerably to your fuel costs? I like those racks! Any tips of any sort would be welcome.
