Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Paint falling inside headlights!

Post by flansberrium »

Hello!

New to the Delica world, I got mine 10 days ago, passed QC Safety Inspection today ( :-D ), now time to play!

Since I got it, I always thought the headlights were really bad (I can barely see the road lines) , high beams are excellent (and very impressive). Today I noticed there's no more ''chrome'' finish on the inside, but I can see bits of paint around inside the headlight. I do have 55W bulbs in like written on the headlight assembly.

Has anyone ever taken the assembly appart and painted the inside back to a ''chrome''/mirror finish? I feel like this would help getting a bit more light out of them.
If someone did, what kind of paint did you use? Or what did you do to get it back to mirror finish?

I'll try to take pictures if it can help!

Thanks!

Funny you should ask...YES! I had the exact same problem with one of mine. I did manage to pry it all apart and then I just sprayed it with a paint bomb of chrome. I think I got it at Canadian Tire in the paint department. It has held up for a year now, surprisingly (I didn't have much confidence as it is not an automotive quality paint...)

Has it made your lights any better? Have you aligned them yet ? :P

I'll do this soon, it's insane how I can't see anything at night at the moment, the lower bumper lights are doing most of the job I think! :-(

Definitely improved them from dull, no paint, but these are pretty crappy lamps. Even after replacing the bulbs with super bright options (search the forum...there is a post somewhere re bulb options. I tend to flip on the high beams a lot.

Check out this option for an led upgrade I am considering:

Those LED headlamps look cool, though I'm curious about their quality.

Will those headlights be DOT approved??
If they can't aim to the right them they will blind oncoming drivers and make you subject to mucho problems, not to mention giving the rest of us a bad name. See potential insurance problems and conflicts with the law.
