Wet Floor In Cab Area

Post by philmeup1 »

Hello folks,

I finally got around to addressing the wet floor in my 93 L300 Super Exceed. There was lots of water coming in from outside and every time it would rain, it would get all over the fuse panel, not to mention everything else. I consulted past posts on this topic and ended up removing the front quarter panels and resealing in behind them. It was a bi+ch of a job as not one screw would come out easily. The two that are under the windshield rubber would not come out at all and I ended up just bending the metal back (I know, but I was beyond frustrated) to expose those inner seams and reseal them.

Anyway, everything went back together quite nicely and I felt as though I solved the problem. After the repair I used my carpet cleaner and sucked out about a cup of water from the drivers side front floor area. I figured I'd start fresh with newly dried carpet and go from there. Well, there's a rainfall warning for Southern Ontario today & tomorrow. I checked for leaks and found although it's much better, I'm not outta the woods yet. The passenger side is fine, but there's still water coming in the drivers area. There was no water on the fuse panel (which is great) but there must be water coming in from somewhere else.

So I went back to the old posts and did some more research. I'm thinking some water might be coming in from the windshield washer stalks that seem to stick out further than the front bumper. I traced (as best as I could) water that seems to be coming in right below the drivers side stalk. I checked to see if they were loose, but didn't think they were all that bad. I could however wiggle both of them a little with my hand. I'm wondering if I can reseal them from the outside with something. I know Growler did this but he removed the dash and tackled this from the inside, but that's way beyond my skill set. He mentioned sitkaflex as a sealer and using a urethane based sealer for other repairs of this nature. I might need to tighten my wiper blades at the base and perhaps check the front rain gutters for possible cracks too.

I really would love to fix this problem completely so I can enjoy non smelly wet carpets this summer.

Any advice is appreciated:)

Cheers, Phil

I have no advice for the leaks but I have always wondered,"Why do they put carpet in a vehicle?"...
I'm planning on pulling the carpet out of my cockpit and putting in rubber flooring. Princess Auto had a sale on rubber flooring a few weeks ago so for a $25 investment I got 5ft of it (4ft wide which should cover it). I'll post photos when I get to it....

Actually that sounds like an excellent idea!! Carpet is not very practical in vehicles. I tried to find rubber floor mats for our L300's, but had no luck in my search . Apparently they did make them for our van's, but they're very hard to find. I love the Weather Tech Floor Mats, but obviously they don't make them for our vans.

I'm curious to see how yours turns out. Please do post pics when you've got the rubber installed.

Cheers, Phil

Hi.

Did you remove that body front panel also, that common source of wet floors in L300's, described here -http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.ph ... &p=118571&

Once upon a time did this to many L300's!

The rubber mats look great, and will be far more functional I'm sure.

I think I finally fixed all my leaks. Not only did I have to remove the quarter panels, but I had to seal up the drivers side windshield washer stalk. I tried to get at it from the inside of the vehicle, but it's way up underneath the dash, and I just couldn't get my greasy mitts up that far.

I was at Crappy Tire and found this stuff called Marine Goop. I read it's best not to buy anything that's urethane based as it will eventually rust the metal over time. It was very difficult to determine which sealants are urethane based. An associate came over to offer help, and when I asked him this question he replied urethane is in a can over in the paint section. Thanks buddy, I guess.....

So I went back to the Google machine on my phone and decided the Marine Goop might be ok. Anyway, long story short it did seal the leak coming from the washer stalk and it's clear so you don't really see it.

Maybe my next job will be to install custom rubber mats next.

Thanks for posting the pics:)

Gotta say the mats do smell, kinda like cheap cigars. It was a warm day and, well, I’m hoping it off gasses quickly or I’ll be installing Mat2.0...
