Glow Plugs

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Hello Delica World!

Is it just me or is there anyone else that think the glow plugs should be all connected equally? Not with the little piece of metal?
If you look at the photo, this plug was the one connected to the power. Now every time, the one connected to the power, turns out to be busted. Would'nt make more sense if power cables were attached to each plugs? Thus preventing over heating or whatever bust the plugs?
Let me know if any of you tried it.
Also, what is the max Torque on the plugs?

There's no reason why you can't replace the bus bar with large wires. The disadvantage of using wire is that you have a terminal crimped onto it at each glow plug, which makes many more points of potential failure. The bus bar is just one big chunk of metal, and and far less likely to fail.

It's a system that works just fine on most engines. Perhaps your bus bar is loose or worn at that one glow plug, or maybe you have missing washers or nuts there which let it get loose? The bus bar should be attached to each glow plug with a washer and nut, and then the wire should be attached to that glow plug with a second nut.

It's also unusual that your glow system is breaking glow plugs; in theory, if the resistance is wrong (one broken plug or a bad connection) the glow control ECU just stops working, or defaults to only cycling the plugs very briefly. Have you confirmed that your temperature sender is working correctly?

The glow plugs should be installed to 15-20Nm, the bus bar and wire nuts to 1.5Nm.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

The glow plugs are connected in parallel with the bus bar just as they would be with individual wires. I agree, it sounds like a bus bar connection issue... are you powering the plugs with a manual 12v connection?

Nope, thru the ECU.

I just wonder what you guys do, change all the plugs or just replace this particular one?

Also, there has got to be someone that tried connecting them all instead of the bus bar.

When I replace the plugs I do it as a set... but I don't have your issue where one is burning out for some reason. I would clean the bus bar and use a little silicone (dielectric) grease at all of the connections to see if that will resolve the issue. I would also only replace the bad one in this case.

Yes, I did changed all of the plugs and threw away the bad one and kept the old ones. Now I am just replacing the bad one with the ones I kept.

But again my main question remain. Is there anyone out there that connected all plugs equally with wires instead of bus bar.
