So in my quest to find a used injection pump for my 1991 Chamonix 2.5, I've encountered a few things that confuse me. First, just trying to find the part number for my own reference, I came across MD171460.
In speaking to some people (at Rocky Mountain Imports, Mendel's Garage, Rising Sun, etc) about finding used pumps, one person in particular (John at Rocky Mountain) indicated that not all L300 pumps are the same. Other folx said that in fact, all L300 pumps are interchangeable. I asked John to clarify, and I'm waiting to hear back from him, but he said it was something that could be found by looking at the top of the pump.
Steven at Rising Sun clarified that the transmission type would actually make a difference, and also said that some IPs were water cooled, but that my 1991 would be an oil-cooled IP, and that while all oil-cooled IPs could be used, most would require some modification.
Any insight? Are all L300 IPs the same? No? How do I know the difference? If different, what kind of modification is needed?
Thanks!

IMHO Steven at Rising Sun is the best source of information in North America.
They have been importing, servicing and repairing Delica's and Pajero's for 10 years.

See if you can contact Butch at CVI. He's been actually working on them for much of his life. Try him at (604)-247 0500.

Different injection pumps across different years/models?
That's right, there were a huge number of injection pump models fitted to L300s over the years.
In general, the main part of the pump is the same (up until 1993), the different part numbers describe the accelerator linkages, cold-start devices, and other ancillaries bolted to the pump. Any pre-93 pump should work with your pre-93 injectors and engine, but you might need to swap some of the linkages over.
In 1993 they switched to a higher-pressure pump, which won't work with pre-93 injectors. At the same time they switched to a water-cooled turbo, which is what I think Steven was getting at.
You can compare the internal parts of the different pumps to reassure yourself that I'm not completely insane. Down the rabbit hole we go:

Looks like you should have MD171460. Just for giggles let's also look at MD188429 and MD305322 (the post-93 pump). You'll want to open the next 3 links in tabs so you can switch between them:
MD171460, also known as Zexel 104740-8232 (https://fuel-inject.com/zexe/1047408232/#h=1047408232) uses MD103301 (Zexel 105148-1112) injection nozzles and holders, which open at 11.8MPa
MD188429 (104740-8232) (https://fuel-inject.com/zexe/1047408542/#h=1047408542) uses the same injectors, so should also work.
MD305322 (104740-8812) (https://fuel-inject.com/zexe/1047408812/#h=1047408812) uses different injectors which open at 14.7MPa, so isn't compatible with your existing injectors.
Those links also have exploded parts diagrams with part numbers. That's the bit where you can see the internal bits that do the work are all the same (or not, in the case of the post-93 units).
Good luck...
