I have done,
A partial transmission fluid change, about 2 liters a week for the last 4 weeks.
Blanked the EGR and added an EGT gauge.
Added an oil pressure gauge.
My gauge pod is all cracked up so I put the gauges in a box that looks like a vintage atlas.
Had 2.5 inch mandrel bent ss exhaust put in.
All new shocks.
Leveled the van by cranking up the torsion bars.
New dash speakers
Started polishing the glass to get rid of the etched in water spots. Good grief, that's time consuming!
All new sashes, guides, run channels, inside and outside weather strips, and vapor barriers in front doors.
LED interior lights.
Cleaning any electrical contact or switch i come across with Deoxit and or Fader Lube.
Re-bonded the skin on the tailgate to the support structure and installed new vapor barrier.

That's it for now!

I used Loctite Power Grab Ultimate.

I had found the stuff that factories use but it was $45 a tube. I tried 100% silicone (the non-paintable kind) but it didn't work that well. I removed it all and used the Loctite. It works perfectly. My door sounds solid now when I close it, and it cut down on the rattling inside the van. I'm so happy with it I'm planning on stripping the van and bonding all the skin to the support structure.

If anyone knows a reason I should not use it, by all means, please let me know before I go hog wild.

Did an oil change and shortened the rod on turbo gate , spooling much faster and pulling boost way sooner now. Litte irl has come to life. Also helped making it less smokey

Got Butch @ CVI to rebuild my IP pump. No more diesel leaks and no more sticky slide governor so the idle is consistent. Great work as usual. My part of the process was to drive the van to and from his shop. He sounds quite excited about his new shop in Abbotsford and the organized space he will have.

Started rebuild of IP pump, took out all the guts to get atthe timing beltsand found a oil seal leak so waiting for parts. Repainting front panel, all the steps, and all the guard plates.
Not all in one day.

Morgonzo the IP rebuild including timing and a few other minor things was less than $1500 including all our taxes. That includes the time to remove and reinstall the pump. I was quite happy with the bill and Butch does great work as everyone that has ever taken a van there will attest.

I have been über busy. I'm a painter. Everybody wants a piece of me, especially since the sun has been turning up. So busy that I've not been keeping on top of things, like checking the last time I changed my fuel filter (36,000 kliks ago) or my air filter element (six months ago). Here I am thinking how pathetic my fuel economy has become... Then the penny dropped when I opened a closet door and saw the fuel filter sitting there in it's box. That led to the air filter elements on the shelf below.

So ~ changed my fuel and air filters. =D

My freshly-painted white roof has made the black paint around the windows look faded and awful, so today I started repainting it. Here it is in epoxy primer:

It's finally time to take a brave pill and fit new bearings and seals to the rear axle. Ugh.

Using an angle grinder rather than a press to remove bearing retainers seems a little redneck, but it's what the service manual says. Waving a grinder about that close to the rear halfshafts is terrifying.

"Use service tool MB208938757-39388-B to extract the bearing inner race". Suuuure. I'll just run down to the local JDM Mitsubishi tool store and get one. Or not. Where's the MIG welder. (I spent longer making the tool than I did replacing the bearings. Typical.)

The workshop manual also says to use a 10 ton press to install the new retainers. I don't have one of those, but I *do* have a freezer, a gas torch, and a length of scaffolding pipe. It's practically the same thing, right? Freeze the axle, heat the retainer, and... smoosh! Done.

Hey Growler, it doesnt happen very often that I can give you advice. So here I go. I find heating bearings with a torch works but its not the best way. I dont have the money to buy an induction heater so i just bought myself a cheap heating plate. I use a old pot (make sure the wife doesnt catch you with the good kitchen hardware) and half a gallon of canola oil. (Do not use engine or gear oil. It stinks horribly).
I wrap some mechanics wire around the bearings a heat them in the oil to around 300 to 350 C. After that they will slide over the axle without interference. You dont even need to freeze the axle shaft (again that keeps the wife happy). I hope you still have more bearings to do so you can try this out.

I tried the hot oil thing once many years ago (using a cheap deep fryer with a modified thermostat and engine oil) and while it was super easy, I found it too messy. (Or, to be fair, *I* am too messy.) Oil everywhere.

Following your comment though I tried using the hot air gun (the kind used for paint stripping) and it's much less hassle, and works just as well as the gas. I don't get the retainers or bearings too hot, just to the point where you can't touch them- probably around 150-200C.

In other news, freezing the differential not only makes installing the bearings easier, it slows down the Loctite, giving time to torque the ring gear bolts in stages before the Loctite sets.

The diff is back together and the ring gear contact patch is *perfect* without changing any shims. Yay for using genuine bearings!
