There is a big write up on this site somewhere about installing a locker. From what I recall, if you don't have the larger axle that some Montero's came with, you had to swap axles.

What I found on delica club UK forum is that an ARB RD05 locker fits diesel SWB L400 S1's

I found this on the delica clun forum UK, I am not the author or finder of any of the information. But what's important to take from the following is that an ARB RD05 locker should fit my 96 SWB diesel BUT this information is from the UK, so there might be some discrepancies in the information with regards to our JDM spec delicas. More research is needed before I bite the bullet and order in my locker

FACTS
All V6's have 9" diff and take RD 46 locker
All S1 and S2 LWB TD's have 9" diff and take RD 46 locker
All S1 SWB TD's have 8" diff with 28 spline...

All diff's can be confirmed in the following ways.
1. The diameter where the axle assembly meets the diff (8" is 240mm)
2. The axle assembly ribbing which is also distinctive, the 8" doesn't have the ribbing that extends to the outer edge of axle assembly.
3. The tail shaft on the 8" diff has a step down before the uni joint (still to be proven 100%)

[Having three distinct ways of confirming will overcome the problem of owners changing diffs ie SWB owners putting a larger diff in it - tell tale signs will be they still have the step down tail shaft, even if axle assembly etc is changed]

Theory and just about fact now:
SWB S1 TD's have 8" 28 spline 10 bolt diffs like L300 and should take RD 05
SWB S2 TD's have ???

Hey guys, Regarding the L300 I have. It doesn't appear to have any sort of hooks on it anywhere to use a tow strap/cable/rope in case I was stuck. I am looking into getting an over sand beach permit for my van, and it requires I have a tow strap of some sort, but without a suitable place to attach it in case I get stuck it seems pretty pointless. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Even my RX-7 has a single point in the rear, and two in the front. Probably for attaching it to the ship it came over seas on, but why wouldn't the Delica have something? I really want a rear hitch receiver as well, but I can't seem to be able to find someone local that can do this for me.

Your frame can be drilled and have a tow hook added.

Go poke around the wreckers and look under the Nissan Pathfinders, Nissan Xterra, NIssan Frontiers and grab the front tow hook.

The spacing between the bolt holes is wider than most after market hook. They are wide on the mouth and bent to as to reduce curb scrape or impede your approach angle.

Princess Auto in Canada has some tow hooks that are bolt on but many are not CSA rated (A big safety item in Canada)...the US has Harbor Freight and usually Farm Supply stores have hooks on the shelf.

Its usually best to fishplate the mount point to add strength to the thin stock frame material to prevent tear out and dangerous hook launches.

Drill the frame on one side.
Recommend you insert a 1/8" steel plate inside the frame. Plate needs the same hole pattern . If you have a welder you can tack a pair of nuts to the plate.
Bolt through the hook, frame and fishplate. Secure in place.

Now you have a solid tow point.

Well I don't think a locker is the magic never get stuck again remedy, but I have started looking into a rear locker. I'm going to be getting my on board air set up shortly for bags in the rear.

What are you using for on-board air? I am interested in this as well vs using a battery/cigarette compressor

If you have too much money or are suspending live loads, or over live loads, buy a new one. Acklands sell them.
If you just want a good tool to pull your van out of the ditch; Ebay has lots. Keep in mind it might be a storage problem. Cable is usually greasy...

Awesome tool, tho. Wish I kept one before I retired.

Around my parts are a lot of sand, so I usually air down unless its rained recently. As well as filling air bags in the rear, and floaty toys in the summer haha

Thanks, but what kind of compressor do you have? Is it hardwired or portable?

I've got a samll viar that my dad never ended up using for his air bags, its got a shitty duty cycle so I can't fill tires with this one, so I'll be upgrading to a bigger one

How does this work exactly? Do you drill through both sides of the front frame horn? How do you get the plate inside the subframe?
