OK, so on my 1991 JDM Chamonix the right front speaker comes out QUITE easily. 4 screws, plug and play. Done and done. But the left front. Do I really have to take the entire dash off?!?!

When I replaced mine I just took the glove box out and was able to maneuver, albeit awkwardly, behind there to replace the speaker. I was definitely as surprised as you during the process too. The right speaker is SO easy!

Yep, that's them. The speaker comes out attached to the mounting bracket. I have no idea why Mitsubishi chose to install both speakers so differently either. They're also weirdly sized speakers, installing anything different will involve drilling new mounting holes in the bracket.

I got it. Holy moly is that STUPID. For future reference there are the 4 phillips head screws that removes the whole bracket. Depending on the speaker you have, you MAY want to retain the black plastic risers under the bolt and the cardboard circle in order to get a flush mount that makes all the clearances. What a terrible design. Additionally, I'd recommend something like this: http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWARAFS-Ri ... B013UBXU3E. A shorty screwdriver will work, but it won't be easy.
