turbo question

Hi
Do the turbos on the gas motors work on the diesel motors?
I came across this ad for one and was thinking it might be something that could
swap in case my turbo needs to be taken off for fixin, etc etc:

Upgraded to a Garrett on my car, so don't need it anymore. Has about 160,000 km on
it and still boosts fine, minimal shaft wear, fast spool. Fits '87 up 2.2 and 2.5 Dodge turbo motors.

sure a turbo is a turbo.....engine style isn't the issue. Boost pressures and spool up rates are the issues.

I would say DON'T buy it or buy it CHEAP and plan to have it rebuilt, there should not be any shaft play, if there is any, you pretty much need to overhaul it.

$20 , Run, don't walk, buy it, have it overhauled(couple-few hundred dollars) put in a more powerfull pitch set of fins(ask the turbo shop , they know what to do), change your motor oil to semi synthetic and change it often,(your motor oil cools and lubricates your turbo) you will have one of the more powerfull delicas on here, i had one last year that i had 2.5" stainless exhaust on, larger turbo fins and the head was ported out, I had that L300 Delica doing 140km/hr@ 2800 rmp you wont get quite that fast with out the head porting, but you will get a large improvment if you let more air into the head with the larger turbo, and let it out of the engine faster with larger exhaust, an engine in really nothing more than a diesel or gas powered Air pump, get it in, blow it up, get it out....

Turbochargers were designed to fit specific engine displacements and functions. It has different characteristics depending on the compressor map design. Exhaust flanges might be different from the 4D56 turbo, intake output flange could point to a different direction as well, oil lines and drains might cause some problems too...hmmm ...I would look at it closely and make sure it is a perfect match ... otherwise, it'll be nice to have a desk top center piece for $20.
