My VIN is weird, PF8W-001500
I think Japan hadn't signed onto the international VIN agreement in 1994.

PF8W is the frame type, i.e. Royal Exceed Long wheel base high roof
Many people have the PE8W Super Exceed -- short wheel base (better for offroading, not as long) and high roof.
You can see the frame types in the "model" column here:

Do you have a VIN which looks more like the ones in North American vehicles?

To get info on where my van came from, I asked someone on eBay to send me the vehicle history.
Mine came from Chiba Prefecture, I have the name of the last owner etc.

NOTE: My Canadian auto insurance company did NOT like the VIN number from my van at all.

another note... Mitsubishi Canada appears to know nothing about Delicas -- they can't find parts, they don't seem to talk with Mitsubishi Japan much if at all. They want us to just buy RVRs, Outlanders and Mirages. Mitsubishi Japan seems to like enthusiasts and looks after them but the Canadian one, I got the impression they have zero interest in building enthusiasm. Maybe it's just because in Japan they do real customer service (like free maintenance days & organizing meets), unlike in Canada.

That attitude boils down to the fact that Delica's were/are not available in Canada. I work in the motorcycle industry and it's the same there.
A Mitsubishi dealer in Canada only has access to information/parts (ie: data base) on vehicles sold in Canada. Therefore they avoid any other Mitsu model for lack of info.

Recently, when I was in Japan, I went to a Mitsu dealer for parts. The experience was amazing - even with my '91 Exceed. Pictures...
part numbers...
price...

come back in 4 days for your parts.

North American business could really learn allot about customer service there.

I answered this in the other thread about the timing belts, but for reference: throw your frame number (P25W0514654 in my case) into here: https://mitsubishi.epc-data.com/ and get a personalised parts listing, with a little information about your van (including build date, interior and exterior options).

Shaun,

In Japan Mitsu still sells parts for the older vehicles?
That's good to know, I could then contact a 3rd party shipper in Japan who could go to the dealership, buy the parts for me and then ship them back.
Otherwise, I wonder if there are used parts sellers in Japan (other than on Yahoo.co.jp) who might be willing to ship abroad.

It's too bad auto dealerships here don't see this as a business opportunity, normally they love selling parts (w a markup). I often think that's why they don't want to sell EVs, those have almost no parts. But the hybrids... oh boy. Lots of parts. They love selling those. Ka-ching!
Doesn't Mitsu have a parts warehouse somewhere in the West coast already? Anyway I've never worked for a dealership, I don't know how they are organized.

I wonder if the NAFTA talks fail if we can end up like Australia and be allowed to import whatever we want from abroad instead of having to wait 15 years. Anyway I'm off topic now, sorry.

Patrice: Amayama.com buy parts directly from Mitsubishi Japan, and will ship to Canadia. The only caveat is that you need to look up the part number yourself (as above), they won't help you find the part numbers or refund you if you order the incorrect part.
