Winter Rant!!

Post by philmeup1 »

Well it's official. I've broken my 2nd drivers side rear view mirror on my '93 L300!! Both times it was from attempting to scrape off the freezing rain from the mirror. Don't get me wrong, I love winter. The freezing cold temperatures. The treacherous driving conditions, The hard starts in the bitter cold weather, I love it all. And I'm especially grateful that groundhog either did or didn't see his shadow meaning there's at least 6 more weeks of winter left. I wish there was only 6 weeks of winter left, but I believe more accurately there's probably more like 12!!!

Anyway, If anyone wants some free snow, I've got plenty of extra!! I need it gone asap as I have nowhere to put it:(

And if anyone has a used drivers side mirror they wish to sell in Southern Ontario, I'm in the market once again.

Thanks, I guess......

Maybe have to look at installing after market heated mirrors! Yes, winter has been a long and cold one here in Manitoba as well. But at least we get lots of sun and it's a dry cold...... At least there's no mosquitos!

Many years ago, my master (painting & decorating) did this beautiful gilding job on this window. It was Winter and there was snow on the ground. To aid the drying of the varnish, he pointed a space heater toward the window and carried some tools out. When he came back, there was a crack, running from the top left, down and through his beautiful work and onward to the bottom right corner of the shop window. I've been very leery about heating glass and glass-like substances ever since.

Winter Rant!!

I'm in Peterborough, about an hour and a half north of Toronto in Southern Ontario. We've just had the most ridiculous ice storm pass through over this past weekend. There's tons of snow that's too heavy to move without a plow. Getting someone with a plow is impossible at this point. So my Delica is stranded in my driveway until things warm up and some of this snow melts. There's just way too much snow at the end of my driveway for even vans as capable as ours to navigate through. Luckily I can walk to work and most places I need to go, otherwise I'd be completely screwed!! It's supposed to warm up to +10 this Saturday, but I'm skeptical. Environment Canada has been posting decent weather in the long range forecast for the last month now. But the closer we get to these days, the lower the temperature seems to go. If I had to guess, we'll be lucky if it goes up to -5 by the time the weekend gets here.

On a lighter note, I scored two new mirrors from Steven @ Rising Sun. They're of pretty decent quality and only $65 bucks each. I bought two so they match. I'm looking forward to installing them in a couple of months when spring arrives.

Until then, Merry Christmas:)
