#3 looks like San Joseph bay. North Vancouver island. Far right side of the beach.

The beach is San Josef Bay, thanks to its remoteness it is a real treat to visit.

Ha, knew I recognized those rocks! It's a really beautiful area, been up there roughly ½ a dozen times. did you make it out to Nels bight and the Cape Scott lighthouse?

We went out on a spur of the moment out to the lighthouse for a night than back quickly to San Joe for a couple of nights recovery from the big walk in/out.

Growing up on the island our family would drive up, float all our gear down the creek and camp for a week on the beach - in the 70's we spent days there in the summer without seeing anyone. Even on our early season visit we only saw 2 other tents. Been a nice summer for myself that working away, hiked Cape Scott, Tatchu, and just did the convinant Wild Side trail this past weekend.

Disappointed. Today was to tour the first city pictured with several resident motorcycle photographers, but that was cancelled due to forecasted thunder showers.

Well Kevin I guess no one from Ontario looks @ this post or if they do can't recognize the location. Please tell us where it is.

I'll add another Rec site to the collection from my trip this summer. Hopefully you have inspired others to post a few pictures of sites they may have camped.
Cariboo lake is another of the lakes and Rec Sites along the Whatshan – Mosquito – Fostall FSR's between Needles and Galena bay south of Revelstoke. I did not camp here merely observed for future reference. It looks like a nice area with flat camp sites and easy boat launching. The lake reportedly has rainbow trout and brook trout though I can't confirm either. I also heard from campers @ other lakes that the mosquitoes can be unbearable early in the year. I approached Cariboo lake from the south from Mosquito FSR. This was a monumental climb with several grades well over 20%. I was in first gear a lot of the time and even had to stop once to let the van cool down. I have added a copy of the Route from Mosquito as well as a portion of the road grade. The little guy on the route is the location marked on the elevation picture. The road to the north, which is a more gradual climb, joins up with the Mosquito FSR .

Pickupd the van today, went for a road trip to break it in. Went great aside from it not shutting down when we reached our destination. An hour of driving later, and one phone call, we learned that we need to have the headlights off to shut the van off. News to us! Thanks Khrolar and bitnaut for your contributions. It would be nice to know locations for future reference. I have no real guess for your location Khrolar but I presume it's on the Island. Bitnaut I was going to ask for more info on your setup but is see you've added a post in doing stuff to your Delica. Looks like you've spent some time thinking before the additions you have. I am curious about where you took the picture with the picnic table as I've never seen a picnic table like that. The Bridge River picture sure shows the pretty color of the water. Please keep adding as you travel around using your great camping setup!!

It was nice to have the couple of extra posts this last month. I'd still like to see more of bitnaut's setup, maybe this month. I've got some more lakes to share from this summer's trip up Mosquito Lake FSR. Leaving Cariboo heading north once you get back on Mosquito FSR the first lake near the road is Larson. The road isn't marked until you get to the site so it's best to know where the turn is via mileage or GPS. It's only a short distance likely 500-600 m. The site is very small and is suitable for 1 camper. The lake is a teal color and the only lake like this in the area. It appears from the outhouse there are some pretty viscous campers around so keep the food in the van!!

I was going to add Cameron with Larson but the maximum 7 pictures means it requires 2 posts. Cameron is another lake just north of Larson and a few kms off the road. Again the sign to the site is not marked until you get close so you need to know which turn to take. Cameron is larger than Larson and was a great place to spend a few days. The lake has enough fish to keep you occupied and was dead calm while I was there. The lake is supposed to have both rainbow and brook trout. One of the fish I caught sure looked like a Dolly Varden to me. It stayed warm well into the night which is great. The site has 3 good camp sites and only one was occupied when I got there. They all get some morning sun but have lots of shade for the afternoon. Somebody obviously spends a lot of time there as I presume the rock pile is an oven.

The last section of the trip began back @ Mosquito FSR and went to Mosquito Lake. The road changes to Fosthall FSR and finally to Shelter Bay FSR somewhere before you get to the fairy terminal @ Shelter Bay. The roads have all been in reasonable shape with a few very dusty and corduroy sections. In total since I left the pavement near Snowshoe lake it's about 140 km until the pavement @ Shelter Bay. The section of the road north from Cameron was very dusty as logging was active in the area. The Mosquito Lake site is very easy to access but as usual for this area the sign is @ the entrance. The sites are fairly level with direct access to the water. This is one of the few lakes with a beach!

I've had the split the post into 2 sections as I'll exceed the 7 picture max. if I don't.

The road north from Mosquito Lake is only an active logging until the turn to Fostall FSR where they take the logs down to Arrow Lake. The road north from there I think is called Shelter Bay FSR. It is still good but not maintained as well. The side road to Catherine is about 1.5 km and the sign for the site is @ the site of course. Catherine lake is an amazing lake. It is quite small but very deep with the middle section over 100 feet. The dropoffs from shore are almost vertical in some areas and other sections are very shallow. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon to a full campground with day fishers parked everywhere. This was a real surprise compared to the other sites. Luckily by 5 all were gone and the only guy I saw on Monday was the fire warden making sure nobody had a campfire. I talked to one of the campers from Revelstoke and he indicated this was a very popular site for people from Revelstoke as well as the other side of Arrow lake. They all come for the large fish. The fish I caught was a nice size and strong enough to take over 30 minutes to bring in. This is definitely a top 10 lake.

Well we're approaching the end of another year so I thought I'd take stock of what's been included in this post over the last 4 plus years. I've added 64 sites and others have contributed about 20. The 64 I've included are mainly recreation sites with a few provincial parks and a couple of “rough” camping areas. The review indicated I missed a few nice sites which I'll add next. My total list is now of just over 150 sites so I have a few more I can add. It looks like I'll have trouble even reaching 300 of the over 1100 to 1400 sites I know exist. Maybe I'll need to start ice fishing!

I'd like to thank other contributors such as BCDelica, msimps and the lazygreenfox with multiple contributions as well as those such as Falco,bitnaut, outlet and others with single contributions over the years. Hopefully the list of contributors will get added to as time goes on. The post now contains sites from Vancouver Island to Ontario and north to the Yukon and Alaska. Maybe next year it will include some of the area in between or even from members to the south. Merry Xmas & Happy New Year to all and hope 2019 will include some time in the bush taking pictures to include here!!

My final contribution this year is Community Lake. I can't believe I haven't included it. This is by far my favorite lake for day fishing as it is only 40 minutes up and 30 minutes back home. Community has it all for the fly fisherman. It has shoals, shallows, deep areas, islands and is shaped to usually have an area to fish out of the wind. It is just over 4500' elevation so is typically good fishing all summer. Ice off can be from late April to mid-May and last until November. The first trip in the spring can be an adventure as snowmobilers use the road in the winter and deep packed snow can be in shaded areas long after ice off. The Rec Site has about 8 sites with 2 right on the water. It can be very busy in the spring and fall.
