RockAuto reviews?

Post by macro »

I was just browsing around and noticed that even with shipping, RockAuto prices are half the price of here in Canada. However, most of the pictures do not seem to match the products, I know that sometimes it's just a generic picture. Due to the PITA of returning anything I figured I'd see if anyone has any history with them?

Specifically ball joints for a 1996 Delica V6. I chose the V6 just to make sure I didn't get L300 parts but when I cross reference the part number on the web (MOOG Part # MIBJ0350 {#MB527383, MB52738301, MB52738401}) I get listings for '96 L300s. Anyone know what the deal with these guys is?

you have to check the shipping and the total amount of the parts sometime its cheaper here to buy in the end.
again its up to the buyer which way to go.
cheers

I bought my brakes from them. The price was half of what Napa sells for and 1/4 what the mechanic wanted to charge. Shipping was free to Point Roberts. The service is excellent too - one caliper had a defect and they paid to have it shipped back and gave me a full refund upon inspection (since I didn't have time to wait for another).

I absoloutely despise cross-border shopping, online shopping and stores like Costco and MEC, but with the massive differences in prices on car parts at least, I can't justify shopping here.

I feel the same, I'd rather buy in Canada if I can, but the price with shipping is still half of what I would pay here. But, the part numbers seem to cross reference to the 2wd L300. If I can't figure it out I'll end up ordering from BC somewhere instead of taking the risk I think.

Common folk have in many ways taken it in the economic teeth with globalization; getting a few bucks back by buying parts from around the world is a small reward for having lost so much.

Yet we still line up in our cars to buy crappy 99cent donuts from an american owned company that hires TFW's while making over 500 million in profits last year.

Don't get me started. People have been voting in "business friendly" governments all across the Western world since the 1980s, with very predictable results. Shopping at Walmart is the least of our sins. I just hate that my kids have to live in the same world as those folks, and have to fight the same battles as I did.

And throw a little climate change into the mix for good measure.

I think most people have forgotten, or never knew, how good it was in the 60's and 70's. You'd think that after 2008 people would wise up. Instead, we got more of the same medicine.

I dare say though, we have gotten off topic. . . .

Actually I'm saying the opposite. While I appreciate the needs of local business, since globalization carried on despite opposition of myself and many of my contemporaries, if we have to pay the cost might as well enjoy a few of the perks. Case in point: local price for complete cylinder head is $1200. I bought mine from UK delivered for $630.00
Right now I would be concerned about opening a retail business, given the nature of online commerce.

Once again I agree with Rattlenbang. I don't begrudge the offshore companies for producing the goods. It's the huge multinationals in bed with Neoliberal governments that have, and continue to decimate our very way of life. If I can get the same offshore goods, without feeding the bear that's rampaging through the village, I will. When I can, I support the aspiring manufacturing middle class here at home. Ethics should always be part consumer choices.
