What did you do TO your Delica today?

Post by Flounder »

Put erg blanking kit on, new o-ring for line to water pump and new fuel injectors. A huge thanks to #1 my bro, wade, ken & mat for all their help today to get the deli running better. And Maurie for the baby entertainment. So ride to RD was white knuckle to Olds, white out in many areas. Delia ran awesome lots of power on hills, quite smooth as well. Got home and zero visible leaks. Crawled underneath and cleaned all overflow of various fluids up all nice and dry and clean now. See what tomorrow morning brings. Fingers crossed that there will be no fluids on the ground and hopefully runs smoother on start up!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will post update in AM

How are you finding the front lights and awning lights? I am looking to do those upgrades soon.
The light bar and the awning light are super fun and helpful. So much bright.

EGR delete, revolver shackles, front ball joint spacers, dobinson torsion bars, fts hitch receiver. Now I gotta figure out why it hates the cold (wouldn't start at 15*f, and when it did, filled the whole parking lot w smoke), and I have a trans leak of sorts.

I was busy building a centre console for my van. I wanted some bigger cup holders that dont hide my new radio, some usb chargers, a inverter (1000 watts), and some room for switches and gauges. ( gauges to come yet, I will post when I get them in).
The green lights come on with the headlights. They can be dimmed or shut off all together.
The white lights can be turned on manually or automatically by the door switches.
Some switches and relays. I salvaged a harness from an old Jacobsen greens mower.
Fuses under the storage area.
Main power and ground posts.
View from the back.
I had fun doing it. Just a couple little things left to do now.

After owning my L400 for 4 months now, it's got 210,000 KM and I am feeling very good about the work I've done and the years to come!

Mechanical stuff since I bought it:
- All fluid and filter changes. Using Mobil1 delvac 15w-40. Transfer case fluid was a nightmare!!
- Replaced Ball joints, one tie rod end and boot, couple of CV boots
-Aluminum expansion tank from tigweld4u
-New glow plugs
-Rear brake caliper. Old one kept seizing

Other mods:
-Autometer pyrometer and probe installed in the EGR blanking plate. Installed the pyrometer gauge in the frozen inclinometer spot.
-Redarc battery isolator and third battery inside the cab (I know, bad idea)
-Dometic 40Litre fridge
-replaced front passenger seat with a captains seat from the middle section
-Gutted entire rear and spray foamed with two part polyurethane, covered by reflectix and then my own trim panels
-New tailgate lift struts, 20mm longer
-L shaped pull out bed, inspired by Vandog traveller
-Trailer hitch receiver welded up by a local shop based off the existing white foot step

Up next:
-Water pump, radiator & hoses, and thermostat replace
-Ventiline roof hatch
-Roof rack, or at least bars. So expensive though!!!

Obviously I did all this work just today as the forum topic suggests...

Sounds you have been really busy. What type of roof bars and risers do you have in mind. This is on my shopping list aswell. I have a high roof crystal lite. I might try making my own.

I am definitely keen to make my own too.I've read that you can buy just the gutter mounted clamps, and then the rest would be easy. Just not sure where to source out the clamps, princess auto?

Added some more gauges and graphics to my slightly silly temperature display:

(The missing bits are a couple of voltage displays for the batteries, and the radiator header tank temperature gauge which arrived broken.)

Temporarily installed an air/fuel ratio meter for accurate tuning:

(When I welded the O2 sensor boss in place I ended up with the exhaust dump pipe flange on the wrong side of the boss- hence why there's a couple of new welds on the pipe now. D'oh.)
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

I was busy doing some gauge adding myself. Mine are pretty basic. Just a egt and engine oil pressure. Also hooked it up to a flashing and beeping alarm.
Sofar i am happy the way its working.

Growler I noticed that in addition to gauges you've relocated the center vents to the radio area etc. --- interesting!! Why and how hard?

I found the stock radio mount area impractical for a car PC (now an android head unit). Glancing at the map is kind of difficult when it's behind the gear lever. The best place to mount a screen is where the air vents were.

Growler I reviewed the links. I remember the one with the 2 sections put together for your computer. The rest I hadn't seen before. Your shop must be HUGE to have all the tools you must need to take on these kinds of projects as they cross several area's of expertise. I'm truly amazed each time I see them. I hope you don't live in the area with earthquakes as we'd all hate to loose such a valuable resource. Whats next on your list after the engine rebuild or replace? Maybe you should take on the SuperExceeded project as I haven't seen any progress on it for some time and it would be good to see it finished.

Finally got my AIBAWORKS rack finished and installed. It was a low roof model that I had extensions welded onto and custom brackets fabricated for my high roof van. I'll be changing the wingnuts to hex sockets Asap (less prone to theft) :-D :M
