I have done four mileage checks, total kilometers divided by total litres used. This is based on driving throughout the B.C. interior. Lots of hills and curvy roads getting to remote lakes and such. They all come out about the same. Maybe it was re-tuned somehow in Japan before I imported it.
What does anyone think? Or what does anyone know?
I know it sounds odd but really this is true.
Happy trails
What is so odd about that? My little diesel (4D56) does around 8-8.5 litres per 100 kliks on the open highway. Coming back from Logan Lake (mostly back roads), when I got home (North Van) my odometer read 400+ kilometres and my fuel gauge was at half. How is your city kilometreage? If all your brakes are not sticking at all, tyres at an optimum PSI (I like 42PSI), clean air filter, engine tuned well ~ why not 36 MPImpG? You have a three litre, six cylinder motor then that's a fair amount of torque and you're less likely to be shifting down on smaller hills, I'd think.

Well, today I got started on all the new owner stuff, (oil, air filter, coolant flush..ect) It'll be another day or two before my oil, filters and coolant arrive but I got started by doing a SeaFoam treatment in the crankcase, diesel tank and getting a new air filter (wix 42222 at Oreilleys). She started hard this morning and actually stalled. Started her back up and gave her a bit of throttle and she evened out. I had the same issues with my truck when O bought it and new glow plugs and new fuel lines cured a lot of that. I'm going to check for the sizes of the two hoses on the filter head and the one off the injection pump. I replaced all my old rubber in the truck with bio-diesel safe Viton fuel line. I plan on doing the same on the Deli.
Haven't got the plates yet but will go run around the neighborhood to work the seafoam in good.
She already feels peppier after the new air filter, 34 bucks later. :-D

Picked up the van from the workshop where it received a shiny rebuilt transmission. Had the expected chat with the grizzled transmission rebuilder (who thinks everyone is an idiot) about adjusting the throttle/kickdown cable to achieve what I wanted rather than what he had set it to. He told me I was an idiot, and then explained exactly how to do what I wanted to do. And again told me I was stupid for wanting to do it.

New and improved transmission cooler: the original cooler, a new, much larger one in series with it, a 7" fan on top (not pictured), all in a nice discreet box (made from the old cooler grille to keep it looking original. Ish.)

Not sure if it works yet, as my transmission temperature gauge hasn't arrived yet, but the in pipe is much hotter than the out pipe, even without the fan on.

Oh and I found a shop a 1/4 mile from my house with a guy that's worked on Deli's before. I was surprised.

How are you finding the front lights and awning lights? I am looking to do those upgrades soon.

Fitted (cheap, but surprisingly accurate) temperature gauges to the transmission's fluid outlet and inlet. Red for outlet to cooler, green for inlet from cooler. Sensors clipped to the pipes because easy and accurate enough.

Oh and look, there's enough room for 6 more gauges. How handy.

Made some new louvred panels to replace the rubber flaps in the wheel wells, the idea being that they'll let more air through from the aircon condenser and transmission cooler. If it works I'll paint them black, but until then they're redneck galvanised steel.

Awesome idea to monitor the trans temperatures in and out. Very ingenious. Interesting to see temps under load and in the heat climbing also how long it takes to cool down.
good luck
