Re: stereo install
The Mazda stereo looks good. I went with a double DIN from a 2002 Pathfinder. The antennae lead on the Pathfinder stereo uses a NIssan Specific 2 prong plug. So I had to get an adaptor lead from EBAY. Worked great until the LED's started to quit.
I think the next deck will come from a Mazda. I do prefer the stealthy look of a Stock Deck..even if its not a Mitsubishi. The Eagle Talon/Plymouth Laser used a double din just like the Delica's. That might offer yet another choice over NEW AFTERMARKET units.
Here's a small sampling (I counted 7 different versions, some with RCA input, USB input, CD Pack-trunk mount type,
Single DIN (95-98 Talon/Eclipse)
Double DIN (95-98 Talon/Eclipse)
Infinity Double Din (2000-02 Eclipse)

Re: stereo install
I have a Clarion. Installation was super simple: I gave Performance Car Stereo some money and they installed it. Plus, they gave me a beer after the job was done (it was a Friday). Seriously 'though, if you're interested in someone else doing the job, Performance Car Stereo is very good at what they do and they understand the P25W very well. They will also supply you with parts should you wish to take on the task yourself. This is their link: http://www.performancecarstereo.com/Morganizer wrote:I went to Visions and they told me I needed a Reverse Harness, so I special ordered one. They said the guy who does the ordering is not here 'til Tuesday, so the order won't be placed until then. No biggie. I hadn't heard from them after a couple of weeks, so gave them a call. Whoops, the order hasn't been placed yet. No worries, we're all human, sometimes stuff slips through the cracks. Then I got busy moving house, so didn't get after them for a while. I dropped in 3 months after the original order and guess what? "Oh um, we haven't got that for you yet..." I asked for my $20 back and they gave it to me. But kept the interest they earned by keeping it for an entire fiscal quarter! Now we know how visions really makes money. Swiss bank accounts.
The owner came out and apologized to me in the parking lot. So I ran over his toes. Front axel, 70% of the weight.
No, actually that part never happened. He didn't apologize.

By the way, I've had this stereo for five years now. The only thing to go wrong with it is the plastic face plate case broke about a year ago. They gave me a new one.

Re: stereo install
A timely thread, considering I'l be looking to do some modifications to the Dalek once she arrives. I already asked people about speakers, but how about installation places? I really do not want to go to Future Sh*t and have some kid work on my van. So any leads on a place on the Island for stereo work? Thinking specifically speaker replacement here...
It's not just a van, it's an entire subculture!

Re: stereo install
Who says the grounds are different? I've seen problems that were caused by assuming all ground points were at the same potential, when they were not ("the map is not the territory") but this was not the case with this stereo installation.TieMyShoe wrote:the grounds are different? what the heck does that mean? ground is ground... does he think JDM cars are like old britt cars? Positive ground??
I'm hoping someone will try installing a Mazda stereo in an L300 with the factory harness, which would be a simpler installation. Is a Mitsu --> Mazda adapter harness available in North America?

Re: stereo install
I installed the Sylfex AuxMod adapter in the Mazda stereo, and it works flawlessly. I now have an iPod input.

Sylfex was great to deal with, prompt shipping, no issues.

stereo install
BTW, I love how intuitive this Mazda factory stereo is. I had some friends in the Delica, and one of them says, "Hey, your clock is wrong!" So I said, "Why don't you set it?" He starts poking at the buttons, never used this stereo in his life, and in about a minute it's done. That's good design.
To be fair, this guy's an automotive mechanic. But it worked exactly the way he expected it to, no surprises, no reading the manual. Boom. Done.
