Comrades... Getting on the road on tuesday for a 6-12 months road trip around US/Alaska and Canada. Current plan is to drive up from New York to Boston area, cut back through upstate new york and hug the northern border states all the way to Washington. Then head up to Vancouver and continue to Alaska for the summer. Head back down the coast in fall towards California and head east through southern states during winter months. Bringing us back up to NY for spring.

Thats the tentative plan at least :) I'm sure it will change a million times and hopefully not for the worst!!

If you are anywhere along those lines please drop me a line. Would love to meet up and say hello.

Thanks. We will be staying in US states mostly but might make small hops across the border along the way.

I would love to do a trip like that, but I always worry about break-downs and not finding anyone who will touch a delica. I have often thought we should all send in places we know of that will work on them all over the country.

There is definitely that risk. But hoping any issues wont be a showstopper and could be taken care of given it might take some time.
Knowing where Deli mechanics are would be a great resource. I think there are a good selection in vancouver but not sure about anywhere else. We have a map for the US Delica owners; perhaps we could add the mechanics to the same map. I was down in Philadelphia and Michael from Mendel's garage mentioned that he is connecting with different mechanics around the US to get them up to speed on Delis, etc. I will get that list from him and add it to the map. I think its pretty informal at this point; but at least they won't turn us away when they see our rides :)

The map...

I'm officially on the map! Thanks for putting me there Furi. Pretty sure we have a couple un-tagged vans running around the New England area as well.

Have your Delica vaccined before meeting with pluckmyeyeout Van's, we do not want to get that insane "Suddenly won't start" disease spread in Canada :o

Now, if you think you may use your Van in salty roads conditions, have it rustproof somewhere on the road. I think that everywhere but in BC these Vans must also be cared as much as a collectible/antique car

Was great meeting you before we leave and thanks again for all the good advice regarding sights in Dakota's, etc. As expected pretty much whatever timelines we had went straight out the window. In Michigan now and slowly making our way west. Probably won't make it to Alaska for the summer but hoping to spend more time on the way at places like the Dakota's and explore BC area if we get there in good time.

BC folks.... when is the cutoff for good weather up there? i.e. less than 50% rain.

Below in order is "The Mystery Machine", Captain and me. Although I suggested "Lady Liberty" which seemed more suitable for Captain America. I have Captain's word that he will give me credit if he picks up that name :)

I couldn't get in touch with the folks in Boston. So all safe from the alleged disease :)

And they get as much attention as other vintage cars on the road. Pulled up at the light next to a porsche and the guy crossing the street did the 180 head spin checking out the van. I didn't bother looking at the porsche driver!

Good advice on rust proof for the long term; although not planning on driving much in winter conditions. Was planning on some work when I get to vancouver so that might be one of them.

Thanks; will be in touch once we get around your neighborhood. There is already an entry on the map for Austin; blue Deli with a couple of wind turbines in the background. Is that you? Otherwise you have a neighbor.
