Delica Days

Post by joebillhill »

Working for the Forest Service in the states I bounce around a little bit from season to season. And working in wildland firefighting I'm usually not at my station for very long, definitely not long enough for me to justify rent at an apartment where my room is furnished with a thermarest. So in the spring I decided to take future rent money and put it into a house that would take me to whatever town I was working out of and anywhere in between.

Scouring the internet for the perfect combination of reliability, maneuverability, something that wouldn't break the bank, and something I could enjoy being called a van man in, I happily settled on the Delica.

Researching and figuring out how to get one into the states was by no means a walk in the park but conveniently I didn't have anything else to do, and in April I was able to hop on the greyhound with a wad of cash in my pocket, (luckily I would not classify myself as dainty but it was stressful nonetheless) learn how to drive on the right side in Vancouver morning rush traffic, and bring it back down to Oregon and enjoy one of my favorite aspects of it: the reaction it gets out of people. Ranging from the inability to walk anymore and frozen, mouth agape, to the fist pumps and huge grins (I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about).

Anyways, I traveled to Idaho this summer for work after, with the help of my dad, converting the van to live in and I have just finished a road trip down California and over east to South Carolina. The van has been great! It just cruises and it has been fun learning the aspects of diesel and Delica life. Which, a large thank you to this forum for the vastness of information and innovation.
Here are some of the pictures from the Delica and hopefully more to come!

Cool night shot, I would like to see that one grace the forum's home page. That other pic has been there for years!

When we drove into Seattle last summer with our L400 it got all manner of stares. Even in Canada these things get various degrees of stares to 'okay' hand gestures.

You have a slick L300 on your hands. Keep the pics coming!
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

Thanks Matt. And big bird that would definitely be an honor to grace the home pag. It would be nice to set that first picture through a rotation and those in turn be used for the yearly delica calendar (dibs on Miss-ubishi March)
I'll keep the pictures and albums coming.
