Long Term Trip

Post by joelschat »

Hey Guys!

* Not Sure if this is the right place for this convo as I am new to the forums and don't own a Delica .. YET.. *

But I am being offered a Job that would have me travelling all around the USA Shooting film and editing on the road so I am looking to modify a Delica to have a makeshift desk in the back and have a tent to sleep in.

I would be gone for a year in the states working so I would be getting a non immigrant visa and I am wondering if you guys think I would be able to just drive over and keep insuring the vehicle from canada? or if I should try and insure it via the states and if they will only insure certain years (been reading about a 25 year thing) not sure if that would apply because I wouldn't become a USA citizen.

Anyways It would be an amazing trip! Just wondering if you guys have any advice as to what to look for in a delica for a long term mobile office and home.

Thanks so much!

It can be converted to a sweet camper but check carefully intro the insurance thing; I've heard that you cannot insure RHD vehicles in the US, and that at least some states require residency to license. I've done a bit of research on snowbirds and it isn't an easy question; some provinces like Ontario offer extra insurance for vehicles taken a long time out of the province, but in BC I believe it's 30 days? Best call autoplan to find out.
