Another regurgitator website, I see. This was my comment to that article:

So, somehow, solely based upon the position of the steering wheel on the right-side of the cabin instead of the left-side, these JDMs are 'dirtier' than similarly-aged LHDs? Could you explain the science behind this positionally dependent environmental juxtaposition?

And yes, the JDMs ARE faster than the NAMPOS, which was the underlying reason for the import restrictions beginning in 1970: the Big Three could not compete against the sports cars coming out of Europe (and later Japan), so they successfully lobbied the government for a bailout. Why build better cars when it was much easier to just keep them out of the market?

We need to get the RHD dealers involved.

Most people think RHD is so much harder to drive.

I think the dealers need to setup a test drive day in a parking lot. To get more people to give it a go. They might get a few more sales out of it.

A simpler tactic might be to simply make an appointment with your local MP. Most of them are amenicable to meeting their constituents if you make an appointment. Go to the meeting in your RHD vehicle, explain your side, and offer to take them for a ride. Even offer to let them drive it and see for themselves. Even if only 10% get contacted directly, it would go a long way to having a voice for our side when/if this ever comes up for debate in Ottawa.

I work at the CBC here in Vancouver

I'm actually trying to compile a file and do a little bit of research to present it to a journalist! If it goes into a story, I'll try to work my comtact so it goes all the way to Toronto and Montreal.

No promises here but I'll work on it!

I managed to speak with Hatch on the phone today.

He is the CADA mouthpiece for this, but seemed to be a pretty useless toolbox of a guy. Eventually he hung up.
I would encourage everybody interested to contact him!

Also, I think it might be wise to try and get CBC to publish our side of the story in the exact same format with quotes like
"I got hit with a piece of rusty chrapnal flying off a lifted F150 today, and couldn't even see the numbers on his rusty plate" etc etc.

Does anybody know an approachable person at CBC??

Sounds good! This one http://forum.ivoac.ca/showthread.php?t=3689 could be helpful for your research and for all of us...

Hello to Nanaimo and mid-Vancouver Island Delica and RHD owners. I'm looking for some aficionados for a story I'm working on about why people love these vehicles so much and what it would mean if the government bans the import of these vehicles.
Also, I find it interesting that only vehicles 15 years old can be imported. I'd love to hear from someone about why that limit should be changed. Any takers?
I'm trying to pull this story together in the next day or so, so those who respond first are more likely to be quoted.
Oh, and I'd love to get a picture of your vehicle. You would have to be in the picture, of course. If you're in or near Nanaimo it will be easier to set up the shot.
Thanks,
Darrell Bellaart

Man, this is a really hot topic! More people need to be made aware of this, & if there is anything I can do to help spread this, I am willing. I have already joined the aforementioned Facebook page, & will be advocating RHD's whenever I can. I think the Gov'ment & Cada/Nada have gone too far, especially considering most of the POS cars sold in NA are unsafe, I.E.Toyota's recent fiasco with stuck accelerator pedals!! :o :M

I wonder why one person creates multiple accounts. Let me refresh your memory. He first registered on November 3, 2008 as Newshound and posted this:

There was another post regarding his article:

Whoever is going to meet this reporter please keep in mind that he is not a journalist, so do not expect him to analyze the facts provided and read any documents you might refer to.

I think getting sucked into the debate about the safety/emissions record of these vehicles is ridiculous.

I think there's likely insufficient empirical data to support either side of the debate. I think the strategy should be to make clear to media and decision-makers that the CADA has only self protection interests in this campaign.

CADA acknowledges that, "every day brings new challenges to Canada's franchised new-car dealers. CADA acts as the national voice of the dealers and serves as a forceful advocate to government, industry, and the media." Furthermore, "our activities, products, services and publications are designed to help dealers succeed."

They don't even identify the consumer as a constituant. Clearly their messaging about safety and environmental standards are, forgive the pun, a smokescreen.

Let's hope the legislators see through this obvious charade.

The car dealers are in the used car game, too. EDIT: sorry, "pre-owned"...

I think the emissions is a great debate to enter into....

Since Bio-diesel and WVO are only options for diesel motors and wait that is right you cannot get a small diesel utility vehicle in NA unless you want a 3/4 ton truck or a smart car.

And they stopped importing diesel smart cars in 2008 - they're all gas now.
