L400 Series 2 Dash Speaker Question

Post by Lanky »

Installed all of my front speakers tonight with the exception of the drivers side dash speaker. I came into trouble trying to remove the cold weather throttle knob and the other mystery knob on the lower dash panel. I have tried twisting, turning, pulling, and removing the lock collar trying to get it free but neither want to move. I have a feeling this is going to be a very dumb lesson I will be learning but I honestly cannot figure out what is holding the knob to the rod.

On a side note, i will attach photos for reference, but if anyone can tell me what this mystery knob is I would be very happy. I have googled and searched everything I could possibly look for but I have never seen this symbol in a vehicle before. I was told that the series 2 delicas have an electric jake brake but I was convinced that was being confused with the auto trans position hold.

As always thanks in advance for your help!

L400 Series 2 Dash Speaker Question

The mystery knib shuts off the cold air intake located under the hood where the intercooler scoop is located. It's for cold weather.

If I'm not mistaken on the bottom of both knobs there is a small allen key that needs to be loosened up in order to remove them.

Good luck.

You may already be in the know, but a word of warning - the L400 speakers have weird wiring. The dash speakers are 12 ohm, and the door speakers are 6 ohm. Wired in parallel to create a 4 ohm setup. If you replace them with 4 ohm speakers, your setup will be 2 ohms and likely to ruin your head unit if you really crank it.

I'm too lazy to rewire everything, so I just ditched the dash speakers entirely. Sounds good enough for me.
