I'm not sure what you mean by air valve. Are you referring to the pump on top of the housing or the plastic bottom with the electrical connection to it?

Yea the bottom plastic part. I don’t fully understand how it works because it’s clearly leaking diesel out of the tube.poochike wrote:I'm not sure what you mean by air valve. Are you referring to the pump on top of the housing or the plastic bottom with the electrical connection to it?

That tube is to bleed the fuel from the filter when changing it. It should screw shut/open. If it's in the closed position and still leaking it may be pooched. I would call Glen at Coombs or Butch at CVI and explain the issue. They're the pros and will be able and willing to guide you better than I can.

Ok, so I changed the fuel filter. Everything looked good. I Primed it really well, and she starts up no problem. After about 1min idling, the motor starts to stutter and dies.
Do you think it’s the fuel pump?

Try priming the filter again and start it up. While.its idling pump the primer to see if you can keep the engine running. Sounds like your still getting air in the lines.

Should I just keep pumping the primer and cracking the bleeding but, to get the remaining air out?

Yes. Pump and bleed until the filter is full again then start the engine. While it's running start pumping again with the bleed bolt closed and see if it dies or if you can keep it running. If you have bled all the air out and can keep it running while pumping the primer, but it dies when you stop pumping it's either sucking in air or there's a different issue. Let's hope it's just some leftover air in the lines.

I messaged butch, he said it might be water condensation in the fuel tank. He recently did the overhaul the fuel injector pump.

Did the van do this before the injection pump rebuild or did it start after? If after how soon after? When the engine died the last time after the filter change was there air in the filter or was it still full of diesel? Also, after the pump rebuild was your van smoking, white or black, when starting and driving? If the symptoms were there right after the pump rebuild it could be your pump timing is off.

I am not sure if It did it before, because I didn’t own the vehicle then.poochike wrote:Did the van do this before the injection pump rebuild or did it start after? If after how soon after? It started fine when I bought it. It started becoming an issue a couple of days later.
I don’t think it’s smoking black, more likely white.
How do you fix the timing?

The timing would need to be done by a mechanic unfortunately if that's the case.

That's positive. If after a few attempts at bleeding the air out it still won't stay started I'd take it in for a check up. I have a feeling your injection timing is out or your timing chain is stretched.
After you primed the filter and.it stalled out was there air in the filter again or.was it still full of diesel? Trying to rule out air in the system.
