Reverse Troubles

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

Reverse Troubles

Post by mdevelden »

When I bring the '97 SpaceGear into reverse it will back up for a bit but as soon as I really try speed up the gear comes loose and does not engage again till the van has slowed down enough, then i can feel it re-engage the reverse gear. I just had all the axel oils replaced and tranny oil and it did not do this before. Any ideas?
Also the neutral indicator is lit up as well as the reverse on the dash when I put it into reversre. Is this normal?

TIA

Not normal to have the N and R lit at the same time. Possibly your transmission ECU. Could try disconnecting and cleaning the leads with a good electrical contact cleaner. All your other shifting is fine?

Check your fluid level- on the L300 the fluid level is checked with the fluid hot, engine running, and gear in Park. (This may be different on an L400, check the workshop manual). I doubt a transmission fluid change place would bother to get the fluid warm before checking fluid level.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

Poochike: Thanks for the info about the lights. All other shifting is fine. Will look into cleaning the leads.

Growler: I will look into the tranny fluid levels as well.

Thanks guys
